Soldering
Advice needed please folks, I'm trying to soldering my connections on my shiny new esc, now my trouble is I've got a 30watt soldering iron but I can't seem to get the solder to stick to the esc connections, if I do get a wire attached it breaks off with the slightest pull. Any info in wattage or solder please?

You will need at least a 50W iron, and need to tin (coat) the ESC terminals with solder and the same with the wire before trying to solder together.
|
And get some flux on there, cleans up the surface nicely.

Yup Defo go with the flux
I use it for every bit of soldering I do. |
I've been using a 40w soldering iron that i got from maplins about 2yrs ago , was in a sale at about £20 !!
and use this solder ..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVERLINE...item43c200a114 i find it really good , easy to use and you get a nice shiny joint .., ive never had one break ............ yet !!! |
I use this. The mains version.
http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/cml...tId=0000001121 Does motors and speedos with ease. Can't go wrong for £14.99 either. |
Cheers guys, got a nice new 60w iron on order some flux and more solder. I'll keep ya posted

Also het the biggest tip you can
|
That's the key, a big tip to hold the heat. If it comes with a taper tip change it for a chisel tip at least 6mm diameter - the bigger the better. HTH :)

Thanks again for the advice guys, new soldering iron worked a treat and managed to get the whole thing soldered in an afternoon :)
Thanks again  |
