250mm Quadcopter FPV racing anyone?

I was talking to Mike at Yorcc last week about this and sure enough Hobbyking have just put out a spec racing quad:

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...otor_kit_.html

their recommended spec racing setup is here: http://www.hobbykingracing.com/air-r...ipment-needed/
More under "air racing".

The 250 frame looks great for a fun flyer also. I'll order a few for sure.

Mike, have you got a photo of your 250 quad? what props do you use?

I'm also just helping a mate spec up a quad. what's your take on non naza flight controllers? can you recommend any?

I almost ordered some 250's last night with another hobbyking order I was doing, but they didn't have the recommended motors in stock and a bunch of the frames tipped my order into silly postage territory. I'll do a separate one or wait until they arrive in UK or EU warehouses.

I've been to collect a new X6R receiver this afternoon and some frsky telemetry bits. I'm finally going to build up my kk2 fun flyer later.

CC3D or revo is the choice. good back up online for settings and very small footprint.
Props you want are the Gemfan 5x3 on 1900kv up motors.
Ive sold my qav250 (as well as many others i had).
I'll send you some photos via Facebook, too much hassle putting photos on here.

I was just about to order the hk 250 quad but they want 25 dollars postage!! even just for one frame!
I will order when im ready for a few more bits.

OK cool, so the CC3D or revo. I'll get my (non oople) mate to check them out.
Where did you buy them from?

Yup, same think happened with me when I added the frames, postage went silly.

I figured I'd get my 330 flying first, as I've had it for months and not built it.

northernmonkey 26-02-2014 01:33 PM

Readymaderc.com or getfpv.com for cc3d, cheaper at readymade.

It's in the post

I have ordered one of the 250mm frames. I am not using the recommended set up, instead I have opted for:

Hobbyking i86 flight controller
Multistar 10esc
Turnigy 1811 2900kv motors
Turnigy 5x3 props
1000mah 2s lipo

It is a very similar setup to what I am using on a similar sized but heavier quad so it should fly without any issues. The i86 flight controller is currently fitted to another quad and its small size should fit a treat in this baby. The props push fit onto the motors and normally fall off in the event of a crash saving motors/props.

I just now need to wait until hobbyking have strapped it to a donkey and got it to swim here or whatever they do to make postage take so long.

DynaMight 01-03-2014 11:47 AM

Tempted for when I knacker my Turnigy Micro quad frame. Went to see how much postage was and it came back with £16 postage!!

Found out if you add some other items, for instance http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...t_1_5_3_0.html then it reduces your postage to a much better £6.50, plus a few other options. May work with other cheap items too, worth checking before you order!

I have just had the tracking info go live for the parcel with the 250mm quad in so it should be here soon. The question is do I get Nori to book it in as 2wd or 4wd? Is the range on the transponders enough to cover something passing the loop 6ft in the air?. Do you think BRCA will cover windows at Cullingworth hall? What set up should I run, its not like finding the right tyres is going to be an issue. I may be able to give Danny a run for his money in terms of air time off the jump too. :D

Not gonna be used for FPV but still worth £6.

looks like hobbyking have a kit out now:
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._Kit_ARF_.html

DynaMight 19-03-2014 07:13 PM

I'm pretty sure they're 5x3. These ones: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...s_per_bag.html

I could had got away with bigger ones, probably two inches between them.

Yeah saw the kit a few days ago. Awesome value for money @ £65!

Shipping and a kk2.1.5 put it at well over £110. I think I'll wait until they hit the eu or uk warehouse to save on shipping and possible duty.
