Just a quick question
Is the F113 a legal car for running in the F1 class
All I can find is old info on the formula one class on the brca site and this car has been produced since then.

If we are racing at club level, we can just make or own rules... which is no rules :D yey

Crewe Races F1 every Friday. Along with 1/10 TC and 1/12

What models of F1 cars are they running at Crewe mate.

If you run in out of the box configuration as a foam tyred car the answer is that I don't believe the car conforms with current BRCA rules because the front arm pick up points sit outside the body - that said this should not prevent you running the car at club level.

I have an F113 and run it on rubber tyres having converted the front end to a standard Tamiya F104 configuration - which means it then conforms with BRCA rules for the narrow rubber class.

The BRCA nationals last year only ran the narrow rubber tyre class (190mm) albeit that there are BRCA rules for two classes - foam (210mm) and rubber (190mm).

So would you advise getting a Tamiya F104 and starting from there, i was also looking at the 3racing FGX. Are they upto scratch.

3racing FGX looks interesting (and quite cheap compared to others) but I understand it is a little fragile - also as it does not have a direct drive rear axle it does not conform with the BRCA rules (again that probably is not an issue at club level) - so whilst you may get one cheap you may need to invest to make it more robust etc.

Choice of cars for 190mm rubber - there are quite a few out there;
Main choices are;
Tamiya f104 ver 2
Speedpassion SP-1 (which is my main chassis)
Others;
Serpent, yokomo, vbc, saxo, TRG and calandra(coming soon)

If you are going to race then find a club that runs F1 then look at what the other drivers are running (I don't race near you).

There also are other specialist chassis options that use parts from other cars (mainly Tamiya) such as Exotek.

Mainly F104's from std ones to some with conversions etc. Also there are a couple of TRF101's which are nice.

I would pop down and take a look, I hope to get up there soon with my 101 and give it a nice run.

At crewe I think you can just turn up with an F1 and race it. Obvioulsy a Foam car will be faster so its not really fun when running against the other guys with rubbers and 190mm chassis.

The rules were changed at the 2012 AGM so remove the solid axle/direct drive only rule, but while the FGX is BRCA legal you will have to spend so much on it to get it competitive, and it will still get beat by the direct drive cars on carpet.

If you want something that you can spares for in the UK your choice is limited to the various Tamiya F104 chassis. Even though Schumacher import the Speed Passion F1 they don't stock spare parts for them. Everything else you will be looking at buying from the far east or the USA.

Most people run narrow/rubber, a few of the Japanese chassis are made for the wide/foam class which is more popular over there so you have to convert them by fitting a Tamiya F104 front end on them to make them legal for the narrow class.

The easy choices are the various Tamiya F104 chassis. The Tamiya F104v2 Pro is most popular as a race chassis with its link rear suspension, but the normal F104 works just as well for club racing and is much simpler to tune and tougher. Avoid the TRF101 as most parts are unique to the car and very difficult to get hold of.

I bought one off eBay for £40 and it's ace fun,and very solid,i think BRCA run classes and you can still run the F103 on foam but most run the narrow rubber class
