Did he sideways have a ball diff and UJ's?
 

I'm converting mine into an Ultima and it feels like a ball diff anyway. It's got UJ's too

The Sideways was a basic kit, it had dogbones and gear diff in there.

Were the ball diffs any good?

The sure way to tell if it has a ball diff is to look for setscrews holding the outdrives on, ball diffs don't have that
The ball diffs were decent, seems to me they got notchy pretty quickly with decent power motors tho. I can't recall for sure but I think the majority do not have replaceable diff rings, although it seems like later on they did
