Tamiya and AE springs

which tamiya springs have the closest match to the AE green and silver springs?

i've seen some of you guys use the AE green and silver on the durga. i don't have any AE springs except for the DF03 gold/silver/black and 501/db01 spring sets (red/blue/yellow dots)

is there a close match in the spring rates?

Well, it's your lucky day!

Sounds like Tamiya yellow front and red rear are the springs you are looking for.

These are touring car springs.

Here you go!

Tamiya Front Buggy Springs [lb/in]
DB01 4.35
Blue3.80
Yellow3.58
Red3.17

Tamiya Rear Buggy Springs [lb/in]
DB01 2.43
Blue2.02
Yellow1.84
Red1.77

and all the AE springs are here.
http://www.teamassociated.com/racerh...rate_chart.htm

so AE green fronts are 3.50, which is close to tamiya yellow.
and AE silver is 2.10, which is close to tamiya blue

AaronR 12-10-2008 11:43 AM

Ling, thank you for the post! Do you know the spring rate for the standard 501X kit springs?

If I remember right, they are not labeled with any paint color markings, like the option spring kit (red, yellow, blue).

Fatal1ty 12-10-2008 11:56 AM

They usually have a little point on it. The Standard springs in the 501X are the yellow springs in the front and the reds spring in the rear.

Tamiya Front Buggy Springs [lb/in]
DB01 4.35
Blue3.80
Yellow3.58
Red3.17

Tamiya Rear Buggy Springs [lb/in]
DB01 2.43
Blue2.02
Yellow1.84
Red1.77

My standard 501X kit front springs have a yellow dot on each and the rear springs had no dot/color marking.

I had to look because I needed a stiffer spring yesterday so I tried the original front springs (vs. Associated silver) and the car felt much better!

Thanks - this is very useful information.

So useful it deserves a sticky?

AaronR 22-10-2008 01:35 PM

This is another useful spring chart since this is now a sticky...

http://www.petitrc.com/reglages/BuggySpringChart.pdf

Maybe Jimmy can add the new Tamiya rates that were posted by ling into this chart.

sim 31-10-2008 11:55 PM

I've rearranged some of the springs by brand on my web page http://www.bigbigplanet.com/rccars/r...ad_springs.php

Haven't quite finished but getting there.

Link Updated!!

In fact, Jimmy couldn't do much here as I did the document!

I have added the data from Tamiya spring and also the ones for Schumacher from the Cat SX. Those ones need to be confirmed as I took the value from the manual (hope they are fine!)

I created a thread regarding spring rates some month back http://www.oople.com/forums/showthre...t=spring+chart, might be a good idea to put everything tougher and stick it

SWEET! Thanks for the updated sheet!

sim 03-11-2008 02:48 AM

Just confused by the new sheet a little. There's both Tamiya Durga springs and Tamiya springs with DB01 for colour. I understand the DB01 ones are the black kit springs measured by Ling. What's the Durga one?

Arn0 04-11-2008 12:15 AM

Sorry for the confusion!

Here what is indicated on the data sheet:
Buggy Rear Tamiya DB01 2,43
Buggy Front Tamiya DB01 4,35

Buggy Rear Tamiya Durga 2,10
Buggy Front Tamiya Durga 3,39
DB1 data come from above, Durga data comes from elsewhere, can't remind me.

One set look like theorical and the other from measurement. I don't use Tamiya stuff so if someone can provide the adequate information to sort out this point, that will be great!

Arn0 05-11-2008 04:04 AM

Ok, I sorted the point about Durga/DB01 springs!

Sosidge gave me dimensions (refer to this thread) and I did a bit of calculation. There is one coefficient depending of the material in the formula. If the coefficient is not exactly the one for the material, rates are slightly wrong.

Let's go with the data provided here!

chrispattinson 06-11-2008 09:34 AM

Regarding spring lengths, the Tamiya and Associated springs are too long when running LIPOs. Cut spring rub on the shock bodies. Are the Kyosho rear springs shorter? Im after the equivelant o t Associated rear silvers, so that would be yellow rear kyosho springs.
thanks.

Durga springs are shorter.

chrispattinson 06-11-2008 11:56 AM

Excellent, so it appears the 2.10 Durga spring will be ideal.

Does anyone have a part number for this spring, and a reference to the source for the 2.10 spring rate?

N7ELA 06-11-2008 01:06 PM

Chris aren't you supposed to add weight to your car when running Lipos so that the car is race legal....?
