Stupid rule in my hobbie, please help me find the answer
I just got into racing autograss cars a few months ago (dont worry my rc cars are still with me.......somewhere) and i was reading the rules when i found one that doesnt make sense at all and was wondering if anyone could make heads or tails of it.
The rules state that for someone to race a 'hotrod' autograss car you MUST have a 6 point roll cage, (a roll cage that fixes to the floor in 6 diffrent places) and you must have 'proban' fireproof overalls to race. Then in the banger racing section (no explanation needed:woot:) it says you can have 'any' fireproof overalls, but the thing that gets me is you MUST have a H frame which only is connected in 4 diffrent places, surely it would be better to have a 6 point cage in a banger as they WILL have more accidents than the hot rods will. And the other thing that bugs me is taht you have to be 16 to race in hot rods but 17 in bangers, its one b****y year and im only 16, i hate being young:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: |
my father used to do autograss,i asked him and he says that the point of the 6 point cage is to protect you and keep the car in useable state-the h frame in the banger is only to protect you Not the car.

Overalls
For auto grass racing I presume you have to have the good version as it may take longer for the marshals to get to you as the tracks are bigger ! In banger racing in a oval stadium it dont take aslong ??? Just a thought ! |
where i race (layhams) the bangers and hot rods race on the same track.
either way, i still hate being young |
think mainly becuase you build bangers a lot it would be a pain in the arse to put a 6 point in one everytime
|
sorry theres a misundersanding here, my fault i want to no why you can put a h frame in a hot rod
|
The differences are that in a Hot Rod you want a full 6 point cage to protect the driver and added structural rigidity to the car.
In a banger you want the car to absorb the impact - not the driver - hence only having a H frame (along with a door plate). Mind you a H frame made of 4" box section is still pretty sturdy. And of course in Hot Rods the speeds are higher too - although being lengthed flat out by a Toyota Cressida when I was sat in a Volvo 240 was plenty fast enough thanks. |

Quite fancy doing the big van bangers at Mildenhall, where the only limit on size is if you can fit it through the pit gate!

ever been to firecracker or gala night?
|
Always go to the Firecracker - not been to either Arlington or Ippy Gala nights yet though. Would like to but it makes for a bloody expensive weekend!

look out for it, its got 'Bones' painted on the door bar lol Are you racing then this year? |
Hoping to - but I expect it will be early next year now - unless I do one of the Mildenhall winter meetings. All depends on the finances as it's going to cost a couple of hundred to get someone build, transport and keep a car going for a night.
Anyone got an A60 in a barn? |
my mates got a somerset, but he wont let it go, and his daughters got a mk1 granada coupe, 2 mk2 granada estates, an xj6 jag and a granada scorpio.
lucky bugger lol a banger drivers dream with all those granadas. |
the summerset is not mine its my dads nobhead
