Using permanent marker.

Hey guys, If I was to use a permanent marker to draw a design onto a shell then spray over it in acrylics (faskolor) would the marker affect the paint at all??

Not if you mark on the outside of the shell, and paint the inside?

No mate my plan is to use a black marker inside the shell to draw something beyond my airbrushing skills and then paint a background colour over it.

use paint and a paintbrush? Ive seen quite a few shells with fine details done that way then sprayed over the rest as normal.

not too sure if it will affect the paint, but i suspect you may be disappointed with the results, i dont think you will get very clear/consistent lines. I struggle enough getting my pens to work on the outside when sketching my designs.

But you can never go wrong with testing your ideas first. any scrap bit of lexan/wing/coke bottle.

Let us know how it works out!

I have used a sharpie with success on the inside of shells, to maybe do writing etc, but I do use water based paints.

Well faskolor are waterbased I believe so will try using a sharpie. Thanks mate.

Will do a test on a scrap piece first.

When I did a lot of painting I used Rotring Isograph technical pens with an ink for use on drafting film. Pens come in various diameters and will draw solid lines of constant width. Let the ink dry and you can paint over it without affecting the ink.
