truggy starter box
 

for dossing about the pull-start on my HN CRT rtr is alright, but having to take the shell off at a race to start it could get old pretty fast. So, I guess I need a starter box.

What works for my crt ? are they universal ?
I'm looking to spend - as little as possible. :)

Have you considered a rota start style back plate and starter?

i fitted one to a rtr eighth scale to replace the broken pull start, (handle snagged under the rear wheel and snapped the cord half way down, tried to replace the cord and sent the recoil spring flying through the air cursed a lot and found out a rota start would only cost £5 more than a new pull start unit) and if i remember right it cost me £30 and runs off a stick pack. I think fastrax make them for a lot of differant types of engines now.

It should we the same as a rallycross. But it all depends which way the engine is mounted.

I guess it would have to poke thru the rear suspension - not entirely sure if its possible but if it would work then yea that would be good - less to carry around.

If you can get the mechanism for the motor i see no reason why it wouldnt work Jimmy. Although i did here problems with roto starts breaking fairly easily, this may have been sorted by now though.

With regards to a starter box, as long as the flywheel is mounted width ways and a starter wheel can fit up there then it should fit. Most generic starter boxes have various fitment holes to accomodate different chassis. You will probably need a gel type starter battery which fits inside otherwise ull be lugging a 12v around too!

I think you can get it, just a matter of being able to stick a roto-starter thru to it.. Ive never used one but It should work well I guess, better than pulling a cord anyway.

The starter shaft fits through the rear suspension between the driveshaft and the upper link, and reaches through nicely to the back of the engine. I like it as i can carry the car, glow starter, starter, tranny and fuel bottle without a hauler bag or a the boot of a car.

The hpi versions are for 'force' based engines and this link is for the fastrax ones.

They come in 2 versions rota start only and one with the backing plate and starter, i found apex models to be quite helpful when sorting out which one i needed. Also, i would buy a spare shaft, they don't break but if you drop them in a muddy field covered in leaves they aren't easy to find...............

any starter box for an 8th buggy should fit as most if not all have adjustable posts to line the flywheel up with the starter wheel.

Talkin to Bruce Thompson at pendle last sunday, he should be goin to batley on sunday and he's been racin the HN truggy most of the year so he'll be a good bet for all your queasions

Most starter boxes will work. I use a Hobao one with my CRT Pro. I would not recommend a wand starter starter boxes are much better.
I run my glow starter on mine as well.

Jimmy that fasttrax one is the one I was on about, lots of people use those at the 8th, easy to carry and can charge up as they use 2 stickpacks.

You remove a few moving parts which means less weight on the crank meaning more performance

The starter box over any other kind of starting is a non starter! The benifits of using a starter box are vast to name but a few
1) lighter engine.
2) less rotating mass in the engine = more rev's.
3) Ease of starting no tugging on a pull starter or messing about with a wand starter.
4) The starter box is also a great stand for the car and good for warming your motor up before ripping.
5) You can run your glow starter from it.

Get a starter box you wont want to be without one once you have used it.

I have never had the engine in pieces so I'm not even sure how its constructed - if there are more rotating parts with the pullstart then thats never good I guess..
Its quick enough for me, but hey. :p

I don't suppose anyone knows what part I need to remove the pull stat (the blanking plate????)
