Taranis

I just picked up an FrSky Taranis X9D with OpenTX.

http://www.frsky-rc.com/product/pro.php?pro_id=113

https://code.google.com/p/opentx/wiki/OpenTx_FrSky_EN

It has the SBus on the receiver which will make for a tidy connection to my Naza.

Turnigy 9X with FrSky DJT telemetry module up for sale soon...

Buy a pc ;-)

I'll figure mine out and let you know. Tried parallels?

Once you ride the special bus (sBus) you can never go back. It's like some magic stuff.

andys 22-11-2013 06:07 PM

Do you need anything special to be able to use Sbus recievers ?
I like tidy wiring :)

If you have a windows installer CD - run Bootcamp assistant on your mac to partition the drive - then you can install some Microsoft garbage on your lovely Mac and boot into either Windows or OSX.

When you boot into windows - it's totally naitive so you can have a completely crappy user experience - get some malware and a virus just like our windows friends :)

Lmao. Yeah who's going to post pics and make me sell the kids baby rabbits to pay for one lol.:o

Colinevan 22-11-2013 07:05 PM

Only joking by the way, I had to buy another new hutch this week as I didn't want to get rid of them ha ha:wub

Get on the taranis waiting list at t9 hobbysport. They have just had a delivery and fulfilling more pre-orders, and working through list. Richard said there may be some free in a week. Also next delivery is due before xmas, again sold to waiting list as people join. Frsky can't make and ship enough of them, he is getting as many as he can, having sold over 500 so far.

I've still not got mine setup properly. SBUS and 16 channels is nice though. Plus telemetry direct to the handset.

How have you found yours Mike?

northernmonkey 23-11-2013 08:25 PM

Not touched it yet! will get it sorted over the next week.

andys 23-11-2013 09:18 PM

I asked Richard to put me on the list a while ago.
Did he get in touch Neal when your turn came up?

northernmonkey 23-11-2013 09:54 PM

He sent me an email late at night with a private link to purchase.

I dropped into the (new) shop coincidental when it was my turn.

Andy, you can put the openTX software on your 9XR by the way, with the KK2 USBasp and companion9X.

I might need you to run that one by me!
I'll PM you when I can be bothered to find my 9x... (not an R if it matters)

The 9X is a lot more difficult to do. You have to hack the board to get it on, or buy and import a $30 smartiepants hack add on board.

I have OpenTX on my 9X, pretty stright forward really, take it apart solder on some wires, USB asp programmer and bam! job done. I left the ribbon cable attached so I can update models and settings with ease. (it tucks away nicely in the battery compartment)

I'll see you in 2 weeks, Matt...!

Mike, Some good videos of Taranis setup and how it works, here: http://www.youtube.com/user/PagesFlyingCircus/videos

Did you manage to get the companion 9X working ok on your mac?
The power status of the handset when you plug the USB lead in dictates which Memory you can read/write.
TX off when plugging USB in lets you read/write firmware.
TX on when plugging USB in lets you read/write eeprom (settings).

Simple! :D
