Matt Black Finish

Would love a shell with a matt black finish like a stealth fighter, can it be done seing the shells are glossy?

Possibly a weak solvent solution to matt down the outside of the shell?

A very fine grit rubbing down paper on the outside of the shell to scrub it up. I've saw people use this method.

I'd say its impossible to get a matt finish whilst only painting the inside of the body, I think you have two options

either as pointed out, paint the inside black and then use fine sand paper and rub down the body on the outside until your happy with the effect

or paint the outside of the body with black, but this opens up the possibility of chipping, cracking the paint and ruining your body.

Personally if I was to try I'd say sand down the outside, by no means a quick way of doing it but seems like the best way to me.

This is the best way for a Matt finish:

http://www.tamiya.com/english/produc...lear/index.htm

PS55 tamiya matt clear

Spray the shell as normal on the inside then remove the window masks and put them on the outside of the shell then 2-3 coats of the Matt clear and your done

AfroP 17-11-2013 11:41 AM

spray the outside of the shell black then coat it with the tamiya matt coat or the stuff they use on 1/8th shells to protect the paint inside the shells

Thanks to everyone that replied certainly given me food for thought.

A touch late but what you really need to do it find someone who works in a car body shop, go and see them with your shell and get some scotch brite, cover that in prep and blend liquid and you will get a smooth consistent matt finish if you put some time and effort into your shell.

Buying the materials to do one isn't worth the costs though.

I highly recommend this approach, i saw a shell with this on earlier in the year and was so impressed i had to ask him how he did it. ANd he said it was the tamiya stuff.

Tamiya Matt Finish (PS55).
leave the over spray film on your windows so that they stay glossy, just cut round the frame with a knife.

Adam,
Did you spray the inside or outside of the shell?

minty 26-11-2013 05:09 PM

It will be painted black on the inside and the ps-55 on the outside i think

bigt 26-11-2013 05:39 PM

If the windows covered with the film its a no brainer surly
