b42 SD v2

hello

I've been waiting for the new kf to be release and I was getting bored of waiting so I though I would have a go at making one with my old b4 and my old b44.1 chassis. I bought a b44 off here from 'OHO' to use the rear end of the b44 and the front of my b4, so after a bit of work (about an hour) all I had to do was add rear end of the b44. Im currently using the rear end of my b44.1 to see how it will work, im still working on it and it is not finished yet so please don't make comments on bits missing.

now for the picture...
this was last night

sorry I don't have a before and after picture but this is the earliest one I took.

I tried this a couple of years ago, made a 25deg kick up out of alumunium and cut a b4 carbon battery strap to make a top deck. By making these parts myself i designed them so the original parts eg chassis would need no alteration (apart from b4 strap). I also made a brass weight to fit on the front drive output to balance the car when jumping think it was 40g. The car worked well on dry astro, but a bit loose in the wet. Also i found the bevel gears to be a problem....didn't seem to last. I will dig the parts out and post pics for you to see. Don't think i have a picture of my car with the conversion.

Thanks, I was giving it a test run to day in my living room and it felt great almost as good as my b44.1 avid

I know several who did this years ago. Try to google "B42". Think some GT2 parts were used to join them, there's a receipe somewhere... IIRC correctly a swedish guy was the inventor of this mod.

Thanks that's given me some good ideas for a front chassis brace.

I didn't get a chance to run the car today but I've got a few ideas for an undertray.

Rob,

Was it the #AS 3941 plstic gears you were stripping? Is this common with the standard 4wd version aswell or was it the brass counterweight adding the stress?

Radek

Thanks for the link.
I've finished cutting down the chassis so I should be running it soon, I still need to find a way to mount the shell.s

-use the original B44 undertray + velcro

-use the "side tabs" from the B44, mount a B4 front body mount on each of them (Pred style body mount)

alex97 01-12-2013 05:24 PM

I'm most likely am going to be the old undertray from my b44.1 as it don't use it any ore so the shell will just stick on to that. I'm thinking about upgrading the shocks to big bore but I DONT want to be spending silly money on a set of shocks so does any one know and good ones that won't bust thee bank

alex97 07-12-2013 04:54 PM

I will be testing it for the first time this weekend

If you are still using the standard steering as it looks, I'd recommend getting some aluminum steering bellcranks, e.g. from avid rc, jconcepts, associated or team yaiba. When I mounted the avid (and later for better looks the team yaiba) steering in my sc10, the truck was transformed, and it got even better after I added the vision racing carbon steering rack. Great parts!
