ZX5 RC Range 27 mhz

Hi all

I have just fitted a LOSI 4.5 turn brushless combo to my ZX5. Very please so far and only using 60% power . However my radio range seems really poor, if i go too far away it really stutters like cogging? But when near me it will accelerate fine. I am on the middle of an estate and am sure i have had problems in the past with other RC stuff and range at certain times, just wanted to make sure this does not sound like a power/cogging problem as only happening at distance. The other thing is i have fitted the ESC next to the Ariel and the receiver is on the bar that goes from front to back over the drive shaft. I was using a NIMH stick pack 4500. Any assurance gratefully received, bit paranoid at the moment

Cheers

Dave

Quick update, defo a range thing with the new brushless setup in place. i can't get any range, before the servo starts to chatter and power does not deliver smoothly. If the car is near me all is ok. I have tried it down the park and have the same problem so not a interference issue due to location. Also if i plug the old esc and motor in the problem goes away. I have tried taking out my receiver and esc so they are either sides of the car with no cables near by to interfere but problem persists.

I Guess i should ring DMS in the morning, but has anyone got any ideas i could try?

No, no suggestions from me, just the usual advise to swap things around, position receiver away from everything ----- I know, impossible etc.

We had the same trouble with 27mhz and a B3, seems it may have been the graphite in the car, changed everything in & out, then switched to 40mhzFM and the problem went away, maybe someone at the club can loan you another receiver or something. Lots of brushless systems out there in ZX5's with no problems, mostly its just a case of changing the shell to something taller.

You might be better off re-posting the question in the general electrics section of this forum as I don't think the problem is car specific - someone maybe able to recommend a power capacitor or something for your speedo. I know lots of people have bough the combo, thinking of getting one myself actually!

Its also worth emailing DMS if thats where you bought it as they are normally quick to respond if they have any advice - they have been top ppl to deal with since I started getting back into RC

My only limited advice is to check all connections, all soldered joints for bad connections, make sure rx antenna is in good nick. Failing that, as others have suggested, swap RX with another club member, or maybe borrow a 40mhz set

Good luck

Ted

Thanks All

Spoke to DMS this morning and got a few tips about where to locate stuff. Also going to shorted the leads from the motor to the Speedo as they are really long and i understand this can cause a problem. may also shorton the power lead as this is really long too. Will update you all at the weekend.

Think things are sorted. Spoke to DMS and again really helpful :) Have shortened the wires from the esc to the motor as they were really long. Also moved the receiver and made sure it was near the Ariel point. They also advised me if I have room to put the receiver on it's side, which has helped too. First race tomorrow with the new setup:woot: Thanks to all for the advice, great forum:thumbsup:
