Maybe it's because people expect a thread titled agm news might actually have the agm news in it?

MattW 29-10-2013 10:04 PM

I understand there was only 4 people there, and ultimately nothing was changed.

Can't confirm that mind!!

That is along the lines of what I heard too except there were 5 people and 3 officials and yes that nothing/not much changed

Yes.. thats why I looked at this thread as I thought it may have information from the agm.

PaulRotheram 29-10-2013 10:24 PM

From what my club have told me affiliated mwmbership has now stopped and you must buy a competition license for brca meetings. Not sure of this was changed at the agm or just an on going one.

peetbee 29-10-2013 10:41 PM

There's something about that on the brca site Paul, it says the discount for being an affiliated member has now gone, so no difference between you joining direct or via a club. :bored:

jimbot 29-10-2013 10:50 PM

I did propose that the club discount was kept with club rate remaining the same and BRCA going up to £20 to encourage people to join the clubs this did not get voted in.
The club registration fee is now free instead of £90.

I've been a club membership secretary for a good number of years - and with first reading of what's on the BRCA site it's something that I find quite concerning. Probably best wait until the full minutes are out / the club paperwork comes through.

I didn't make it in time for the "main" agm only my chosen section one.

Jim Spencer 29-10-2013 11:39 PM

Hi All

The attendance at the section conference was shocking - there will need to be questions asked about that one..

Re the Main AGM

About 150ish people turned up for that meeting.

Background, there hasn't been an increase for a few years and we made a small loss in 2013, even though membership has ever so slightly increased.

The floor of the meeting were offered Two choices on the Membership format:-

Option 1

Keep the format as it was, but with a £2 per person increase:-
£90 for the Club which includes a Membership for the club itself (which is very important, the Key bit really, as it seperates the Club from it's members in case of anything going pear shaped) and the 4 key officials
£16 per affilaited member
£18 direct.

Or

Option 2

Give the 'Club Membership' away FOC on compleation of a simple form as you do now (though obviously no officials included)
£17 per person, either by the club secretary filling a form in (as you do now) or by joining direct.

The later option walked through the meeting.

This second option was suggested to me by a couple of clubs (in slightly different formats) so after bouncing it around a few more club secretaries and the exec meeting - it was prudent to propose it.

The rationale behind this is that due to some 60%+ of the members now joining, or being joined by their club, Online the existing system had become very messy for clubs to administer and this should be easier.

The paperwork/ online forms are now being worked on to make sure this works well in practice

Other bits of news

We've changed insurance provider to Doodson Sport
Public Liability cover is now £10m (up from £5m)
We've increased the scope of the cover to further protect our officials (sectional and club)
Full details of this will be in the handbook and the new Club Manual coming out early in the new year

So - please make certain your email details are correct as there will be quite a lot happening this coming year.

Lastly
You really need to give the section confrence some serious thought.. ideas welcome..

Thanks for the update Jim - I'd read someting into it, that by your explanation shouldn't be a problem.

As a query, when someone joins the BRCA online, can they choose to go under a club banner?

Hi,
Yup - you name your club(s) at the time, also club secretaries can add people to their club lists using the Club Client tool.

peetbee 31-10-2013 03:49 PM

Jim, i just noticed on the BRCA site it states:
"2014 membership is now open, this means anyone joining or rejoining from this point will get the remainder of 2013 and 2014 for the current fee."

I always send the bulk of our club's memberships off for renewal during November.
What do I charge our members if I do the same this year, the old affiliated amount, the old non-affiliated amount or the new fee?!
Thanks

Hi
The Membership fee is now £17

Which will join you from now until the end of 2014.

Make sure you collect email addresses and that people do their login and complete their Racer profiles on the website (which is just the tip of the admin. systems iceberg)

Thanks for the clarification Jim.
I think I need more guidance on how this online thing is meant to work - our members hand me the money and the forms for both club & brca memberships at the same time so I process them together (I always request email addresses). So I've always completed the whole process via paper.
In this scenario members probably never look at their 'racer profile' online nor should they need to.
(I will check out the BRCA site)
