COMPANY

Iv always wanted to ask the question how much would it cost to buy an rc company like KYOSHO,XRAY,TAMIYA ect

Gaz_Stanton 03-09-2008 10:28 PM

depends what nearly new company you have to swap for it...

jono83 03-09-2008 10:31 PM

if you would of saved all the money you spent on speedos you could of probably bought all of the above !!!!!! lol :)

You can pull their accounts from companies house if they're a UK company, or the relevant organisation for other countries should be able to get a reasonable idea of value, if theyre making a profit, what assets they own etc...Assuming they're a limited company that is.

Kyosho and Tamiya would be substantialy bigger companies than X-Ray i would imagine.

Just wanna know how much anyone know

WOW i thought xray was bigger than kyosho not tamiya

DCM 03-09-2008 10:37 PM

well, it all depends on how much they have, facilities, equipment.... stock, future sales... and how much you want it....

Just like my Espace is worth about £1800 but if you really REALLY wanted it... £2300

jono83 03-09-2008 10:38 PM

without doing the relevant research its hard to say

vinny20 03-09-2008 10:45 PM

Ok im guessing now i would say about quater of a million its a guess

jono83 03-09-2008 10:47 PM

i suspect it would be more than that

DCM 03-09-2008 10:48 PM

more like £10mil min for XRAY, got to take into account, facilities and product range, sales forecasts etc.... intellectual rights ...... £250,000 is a decent model shop

vinny20 03-09-2008 11:01 PM

jono83 03-09-2008 11:04 PM

it was just hypothetical dude.... you would pay more for a UK distributor, than 250K..... it is never as simple as saying, how much is that car/house/thai bride.

Anyhows, wasting sleeping time over this....

I seem to recall Thunder Tiger paid $15-20 million for Associated.

BTW Figures are from a couple of years ago, the worlds biggest r/c companies are:
1) Tamiya total annual sales $97m
2) Kyosho total annual sales $70m
3) Futaba/OS total annual sales $57m
4) Thunder Tiger total annual sales $44m

So if you want to buy Tamiya you'd better start with a $100million opening bid.

And Xray is a small company in the overall scheme of r/c - most of their products are aimed at the competition market which is tiny compared to bashers.

What a company is worth will depend on its profits, and its goodwill (reputation, intellectual property, brand image, etc.) not just it's size, or market share.

In general, a company is worth 10 to 20 times its profits, plus anything for its goodwill and any premium based on the circumstances of the sale. If a company has a huge turnover, but no profit, its not worth a light (Northern Rock). However, if it has a small turnover, and large profits, it can be worth a fortune (Porsche).

Any decent RC company is going to cost in the scores of milliions of dollars to buy, and if it is Tamiya (look at all that goodwill, by its reputation) then a lot more than that! However, the barriers to entry into the market are quite small, so the cheapest way to 'buy' and RC company is to start your own. After all, that's how they've all got to be where they are now - someone started them in teh recent past, and put the work in to make them what they are now.

And one last thing to remember - the easiest way to make a small fortune is to start with a large one! :)

When i saw the title i just thought you wanted a mate v-mag, im gutted now. Anyway 250K is nothing nowadays, thats just over the average house in the uk so your not going to buy a whole warehouse and factory filled to the brim with stock and chinese people filling packets with parts. I reckon you could just about buy nortech for it though.

Are you thinking of buying one vinny or are you just looking at the moment?

I think tamiya could be part ex`d for your new B4 and some cash but you would have to fit a thrust race to it, they do actually do something you know its not just a fancy spacer
