Melted diff gear on 2wd...
Anyone had any problems with melted diff gears on the 2wd cars? (SC but same as the other 2wds)
Mine has a steel idler if it makes any difference... |
I've experienced this in a stadium truck with a ball diff many years ago, but never in a buggy. I put it down to the bigger wheels on the truck requiring a much higher torque than in a buggy to turn the wheels.

Back when I use to run my rear motored car I always chewed through plastic diff gears with my steel idlers. So we changed to a Kevlar diff gear and we never had a problem again:)
I think this is it but I'm not too sure, check will Alec he will know:thumbsup: - http://www.smddirect.co.uk/tu0278-po...r-52t-2wd-1288 |
Did you melt the gear teeth or where the diff balls sit?
|
The teeth themselves, had put some metal gear grease on them but they lasted less than one round..
Car was second hand, so will try a new gear and see how it goes... |
Not seen that yet, try this diff gear http://www.smddirect.co.uk/tu0257-pom-gear-52t-2wd-1265 and also I wouldn't use metal gear grease myself I've always found a few drops of shock oil on the gears works well
