k1 as 2wd anyone tried it

As above anyone tried the k1 in 2wd form, any changes needed to setup for this

Thanks

Richard

I raced it at the Stotfold national - best 2wd mid motor I've ever driven, it was awesome. I got help converting it, using some cut down shafts and narrowed front wheels I think. No other changes to setup I don't think.

Thanks jimmy ill try it, usual 7.5deg front caster blocks on it

Yep - all pretty much standard tbh and very easy to drive - possibly only good on high traction but I really liked it. I think the only non-standard part on the car was the alloy front upper bulkhead and a one way diff in the front (not that it mattered)

yep

the trend of 4wd as 2wd works great on high grip.

but none seem to work that well on low grip/wet.

on the xb4 minimal changes so expect the K1 is similar. try it.

A guy down our track did it and looked great.

RW Racing are in the process of making stub axles to make the process of converting a K1 into a 2wd drive car easier and cheaper than butchering a set of front drive shafts.
I will post some photos of the prototype stub axles and the retail price once i get them

Do you just completely remove the front part of the drivetrain then, belt, diff, driveshafts?

PaulRotheram 23-09-2013 05:55 PM

Just whip the front driver shafts out, pop in the rw racing stub axles, put a set of cut stagger tyres on some cut down 4wd front wheels and you're racing.
I know it's not to everyone's taste but for those who do, why not

Why not leave the diff and driveshafts in, just remove the belt, hmmm...

because you have to take out the diff to remove the belt!

But there is so much more going on if you leave it in, rotating mass, linked front wheels etc, hmmmm!!

Hey guys,

did anyone some more testing with it? Like
- only removing the belt and running the car with the gear diff and the axles
- or removing the belt and the axles
- or only removing the axles, but keeping the belt and the diff??

Cheers

one of the guys at our club has cut the front of his k1 off and put the sv2 front on it. this goes very well on our indoor astro track
