Liquid mask longevity ??

Hi all

I've got 4 shells that I've had liquid masked using Bob Dively LM for a few months now , how long does it stay okay to use for ?

I'm worried that it may have become brittle and will be difficult to remove when I eventually get time to start painting !

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Graham

Freshen it up with another coat before painting.

jonmiller 06-09-2013 07:30 AM

Agreed, add another thin coat to freshen it up.

Also on a side note, switch to RCS Liquid Mask Graham ;) :D

Don't worry Jon , I have used the last of my LM on these shells anyway , just about be able to scrape the remains from the bottle to do a freshen up coat on each, then my friend , I will be using your superior product !!

Always take any opportunity to sell ..... Love it !!:thumbsup:

So I finally got round to doing some more painting today , liquid mask was absolutely fine without the need to apply another freshen up quote !

Problem was with the paint !
All was going very well until I tried to mix a really pale grey colour , using faskolor black & createx white , I got the colour I wanted spot on but I couldn't get it to go through any of my brushes , tried upping the pressure came through the brush intermittently , tried thinning the paint same results !

I eventually gave up with the grey , moved onto a different colour using only faskolor paint , airbrushes worked perfectly again !

I guessed it must be the createx as I tried it on its own and got the same problem !!:confused::confused:

Using about 40 - 50 psi , and 0.5 dual action airbrushes
Faskolor paints go through the brushes with no diluting usually

Any help would be great thanks !!

Was the grey old, did it have any bits in it ? I've had that with grey before but generally only with older paints.

It could be any number of things so difficult to give a specific answer without having been there.

put a piece of tights over the top and put the lid back on. shake well and try it again.

GrahamH7060 01-10-2013 09:15 PM

Hi guys ,
The grey was a mixture of a brand new bottle of Createx white & Faskolor black , the black was fine on its own as I'd used it first to do some carbon effect & plain black !
I decanted some white & black into a mixing jar , mixed thoroughly then poured into my paint cup
No lumps or bumps in it either !
The white is the opaque style if this has any bearing ?
Thanks for the replies btw

Not had probs with those specific colours, but had similar issues with older Auto Air paint. Not worth the hassle, after much swearing and endless cleaning of the brush. Just tossed it!

cheers

Joo

Cheers Joo

I think that might be the problem , although the white was a brand new bottle that I'd just opened I have had it a while , I've binned it anyway , I've now just had some Faskolor white delivered so I'll give that a whirl

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what to do ? So here's hoping !!

I'll update you all when I do some more painting at the weekend

Thanks again

Have you tried the RCS opaques - (white/black)? They spray so nicely, the pigment being ground much more finely, you'll never go back to Faskolor/Auto-Air etc..!

Did you even try straining via the tight method I suggested before chucking it!?

No Jon must admit I didn't , I've got another bottle of unopened Createx white that I bought at the same time as the binned bottle though , I could see if that's the same and try straining it !

Thing is , I very rarely get chance to paint so when I do I don't want the hassle of things not working !!

I've never had any issues with Faskolor in the past it's only since I introduced the Createx I've had issues !

I think I will give your stuff a shot though , seems most of the guys on here use it , and highly recommend it , unless you just pay them all a commission ?? Ha Ha ! I do use your chrome already which gives a great finish I must admit !

jonmiller 02-10-2013 07:06 PM

try straining as i mentioned if you have trouble with the other bottle you have.
createx make the paint for faskolour as far as i know so i don't see that being the problem. probably just an old bottle and needs thoroughly shaking and straining prior to use

nope, i don't work on bribes, just merit

GrahamH7060 02-10-2013 08:00 PM

Cheers for the advice Jon I'll strain it and try it !

Be painting at the weekend then I'll update and put a couple of pics up
