Cat K1 upgrades/spares

Can anyone tell me if I will need to upgrade any known weak parts on the K1 and which spares will I need to carry?
Thanks

Ditto to this just got myself one as well

If you race mostly on astro turf I strongly recommend using geared diffs, low maintenance and drive better through the turns, I haven't looked back since switching to them

Alloy gear box tops

As Bobbin says I think the geared diffs are a step forward, especially in the dry. Most people seem to use 10k oil in the front and 5-7k oil in the rear.
The alloy gearbox upper housing for the front are good, I haven't bothered with the rear as the plastic one seems strong enough. The alloy front suspension hangars are also good. The new rosé joints also look good as you can capture them so shouldn't pop off, the standard grey ballcups can be a bit weak and pop off a bit too easy.

Would the gear diffs fit the SX3?
I notice that the K1 diff pulley is different, but only subtely.

bobbin 03-09-2013 09:20 PM

I'm using 10k in the front and 5k in the back which works well for me, I know some of the team drivers are using 10k all round with great success

I've ran mine for a full season and have broken a front shock shaft and that's it. I did put alloy yokes and front alloy gear box top on from new though.

Apparently they don't fit, although I haven't tried. I think the spacing around the diff may be a little wider on the K1.

I don't suppose anyone could post the part numbers as I can't seem to find a lot of the parts you have listed?
Sorry to be a pain.

First of all, let me say that I am no PRO driver, so some people might have a different opinion than me, but I would like to help you.

1# spare parts: Wishbone, Front: U3407.
Wishbone, rear: U4184
Suspension Block Set :U4182
these parts breakage always first, and those you just have 1-2 sets of each.
And I recommend that you use RW Spur Gear: RW48K198.

2# upgrades: 1# Gear diff; Front and rear: sorry cant remenber part nr.
do not throw your ball diff away, they can still be used on some tracks as part of your setup
2# CORE RC Big Bore Spring Med : CR177
3# CORE RC Big Bore Spring Long : CR178
4# Roll Bar Set Rear: U4172
5# Roll Bar Set Front: U4165
6# Alloy Yoke; 7.5deg: U3404
7# Schumacher Alloy M3x6 Spacer :U2858
8# Pivot Block Front 10 degree :U3556 U need a rear part to.
9# Rear Alloy Block Conversion Set : U4160 (Nice to have)
10# FAB Front Adjustable Brake : U4133 NEED Part! :)

There are many more parts you can use but this is the part I always end up using and the ones I use most.

I hope this can help you :)

I really appreciate that - thank you.
This is a big help as I'm totally new to 1:10th (this is my first buggy)

I can confirm that they don't fit, K1 is wider as you say.

Dodgy Guy: Just buy the basic stuff mentioned as #1 in previous post. Don't buy too much optionparts...unless you want of course..and have the money.

K1 has a very good base setup. Just go out and have fun as it is :-)

I can add add these parts to #1
U3300-front hub carrier
U3361-Roll Pins

If you break the upper transmission mount, buy the aluminium. They are stronger.

Many thanks.
I have started to build it and ordered the spares.
I just need to look into what motor I will need for use on mostly astro.
