Removing Tyres with Acetone are they still useable
I have some brand new tyres that I want to remove from the rims and was wondering if I use acetone, will I be able to re-use them or does it affect the rubber?
In the past when I have wanted to re-use the tyres I have boiled them off, but when removing old discarded tyres I use the acetone method. The rubber looks to be unaffected with this method, but I'm unsure if this has any affect on reusing them for racing. Any thoughts. |
It seems to depend on which tyres really, can't speak for every type, but Schumacher yellows tend to go hard afterwards, DBoots though seem to be unaffected.

I use a veg steamer, put them in for about a hour and they come straight off, the foams are still dry and reusable too.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

I find baking mine in the oven the best, tyre, wheel n foam all come out useable

What's the best temperature to bake a tyre at tricky?...
|
I normally put them in around 160 but that's with 1/8 size wheels, try it with an old wheel I put them in for 5 minutes n see what there like if they don't peel off the rim I put them in abit longer.
Would advise to wear gloves as they get quite hot, |
