Lee Martin at Euros 2013

Must say, I was really inspired and impressed by Lee Martin at the Euros.

He´s 4th qualification run in 4WD was almost 2 sec faster than the second fastest driver (Hupo).
He was 7 seconds faster than Bayer and 3 sec faster than Jörn.

Really sorry for him that he did´nt win. He really deserved to win.

I guess you have seen that the 511 is still alive and there are more to come...

"Lee told us he went with the 511X because it’s smoother to drive and has a suspension more to his taste than the 502X, going over the bumps much better, which makes it his preferred car.

Lee is running a totally new prototype chassis layout which follows on from Tamiya’s testing at the worlds warm up race just a few weeks ago…

At the time of publishing we still hadn’t received the green light from Japan to publish… so, we’re showing you as much as we’re allowed!"

lee was quite unsporting in the A main first leg, he clipped Martin Bayers rear wheel causing him to roll and immediately went through on first and didnt wait.

[frustration mode] If only we could buy the 511, this would all be great news.[/frustration mode]

So there's going to be an 'upgrade' to the upgrade kit?

We still can't get spares for the first one.

Fredrik Emilsson 22-07-2013 05:09 PM

Should soon see updated release of 511?

  • New top decks
  • New lower deck
  • "old style" belt configuration
  • Gear diffs

I cant see the logik in allowing Lee to continue racing the 511 if its no longer being made or is available.

Yep - that's what I see(expect) as well. The white gear diff cases are obviously there, big bore shocks, the belts have gone back to the original "pre-upgrade" pack orientation - wonder if the motor mount has changed much. They were already adding weight to the motor side before moving it further inboard with the upgrade pack, maybe it's back out-board?

Maybe it's simply the original 511 with TA06 39T metal gear diffs and BB's?!

And if we haven't bought a TRF502 since that and nobody's running it at the highest level...

Great job Tamiya!

I'm also going back to the original motor layout on clay and dirt tracks. At the moment my TRF502X is much faster then my TRF511 with upgrade set.

Lee,

Can you post the setups (TRF201 and TRF511) from the Euros?
Or can you tell me the used oil weight in diffs and BB shocks?

Thanks in advance.

Good questions to know! My BB and TRF201XR are still coming so I will appreciate this info
