Why is beer sold in 440ml tins? Why an odd volume like 440ml? It's bothering me.

500ml ones are an obvious half liter and 568ml a pint, but why 440 for box sets and four-packs?

The best answer I have is that 440ml poured from a tin fills a pint glass including it's fizzy head, but why 440ml and not 430ml or 450ml.

Because the UK is an island and too much weight from the thicker cans may cause it to sink
