B4 / SC10 - ball or gear diff?

After managing to successfully chew the internals of 2 gear diffs in my SC10 on Saturday (my fault - not shimmed correctly) I slipped the last remaining spare ball diff in its case into the truck to see how it went.

Very well was the answer.

Got me thinking though - what's the best option? Do I stick with a ball diff in the truck (i.e. is it man enough?) or buy the internals to repair the gear diffs and stick one in the B4 as well?

I know I need a different gearbox housing for the B4 to put the gear diff in, and I believe a different lower plate too? Different sized main bearings as well I believe?

Go ball diff I reckon, on both of my old SC10's I went that route and as you said it's easier to drive

B4.1 diff (metric outdrives) will drop straight in your gearbox, you can use the Associated diff or MIP make a SC10 ball diff

If you want to use an original B4 diff you'll need the diff, B4 diff case, imperial bearings and the lower chassis T plate

Thanks Mark - I was biased to go the ball diff route (less spares to carry if I'm running the same diffs on both cars).

I had a complete B4 gearbox ready built which I dropped straight into the SC10 - didn't have to change the T plate at all. I think it only needs changing if you go from ball diff to gear diff as the gear diff is wider?

I'll just get another spare B4 gearbox built up I reckon which will serve both cars if needed.
