Vintage Yokomo Touring car YR4's
Hi new to the forum and only found out about it after looking for vintage Schumachers which I used to race as a youngster in the late 80's and early 90's.
I raced a freshly built Topcat which eventually was converted to a Cougar which I raced for some time. The last car I had back then was when I converted to 4WD which was a second hand Yokomo Dogfighter (one before YZ10) which I loved but when I grew out of racing I sold the Yokomo for very little money. A year or so back I got chatting to a fellow sprint racer (1:1 scale) and suggested we bought some old RC cars and set them up for doing some car park drifting for fun. He bought Tamiya TA 01 type chassis and I bought two second hand cars, one being a HPI sprint and the other a short wheelbase Yokomo YR4 II which was not complete http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...a/82c4b615.jpg This was the two cars, the Yokomo being the one behing. It was missing the top deck, bumper and a few other things too. I sourced lots of parts on ebay and managed to get it like this http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...a/2440912f.jpg The car was taking shape with a period (ish) receiver and Novak ESC, I already had my old Attack R from my old racing days and a few servos. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...58729184e8.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...b333d311a4.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps16268b05.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...psefab0c91.jpg Something I was missing was a body for it, nothing was available that directly fit so after asking around I was told the M chassis Tamiya bodies fitted so I chose the RX7 FB http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...82ebd91a08.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...28f5868bea.jpg I wanted to paint it like a famous 1:1 scale car from America http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...8e59081b7b.jpg And with all stickers on http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...bd82cfee72.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...107b513c89.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...a1d7e779f0.jpg I then aquired a long wheelbase version which I plan to drift properly once it's finished http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...9071d30479.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...e96110d3ad.jpg And also by the same person, got a brand new YR4 compact, in the box with just some steering links missing. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...bf3087357b.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...f99203a1ba.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...c25cce3e89.jpg The car is built now so I will get some pictures taken and put up here ASAP. I hope you like and I plan to linger around here as I am going to get a vintage Cougar 1/2 from my brother and re-live some RC racing at my local track very soon Cheers |
I have a couple second hand YR-4s and they are fun once you fit some toe-in axle carriers on the rear. I don't have a compact and looking at yours I really regret that.
