Vintage racing at Yatton!!!!
 

Hi All,

Would anyone be interested in racing a vintage class at Yatton (Y.R.C.C) looking at maybe every other Tuesday. We would need a turn out of at least 8 drivers so we can run 2 heats.

Rules would be 20years old and over. 21T motor limit.

The track layouts would suit the vintage class and can be change each meet if need be.

Would love some feedback from any one interested>>>>>

Im in guys. 21.5 brushless is the same as the old silver can.

Perhaps South West RC could do a deal for racers entering this class?

This would give a truly even playing field in terms of motor/esc capability

I'm on the verge of buying a Bosscat, would love a decision on this before I take the plunge

Why not let people run what they have rather than having to buy more kit?
We've been running pre 94 vintage at Caldi for a few years and people have let the car define their motor limit (eg a 17.5 in a pb mustang, 10.5 in an rc10) It still comes down to driving ability and the mustang was faster over 5 minutes anyway, it's meant to be for fun after all!

My thoughts exactly. No point buying more gear if you have to, if you've got a 4.5 spare wack it in but it cetainly isn't going to make you faster round the track :lol:

Run what you brung pre-1992 makes more sense to me. Who cares what it's got in it!

I'm down for that as long as the car is old it don't matter what's in it
It looks like I will be the only one running vintage tamiya cars though but I do have a pro cat and a yz10

For my pennies worth, spares for vintage cars are not readily available and sometimes not cheap.

Yatton is a great facility but it has a lot of immovable objects like walls and steel pillars etc and when you hit them it hurts the car and your pocket!

If the cars are to fast the likely hood of breakage's is going to be a lot higher than running some sensible motors like a 17.5 or 21.5T.

Its not my driving im worried about, I could easily turn down my EPA and have a very drivable car, its other people with silly motors who are ballistic from one crash to another taking my car out and costing me a small fortune which has happened previously!

Spec racing is also about everyone on a level playing field and having fun based on driving ability and not who has the faster car down the straight! Limiting the motor is the easiest way to get everyone around the same speed without getting into specifying tyes, blinky speedos and all the rest of it. Everyone should agree to turn off turbo functions to play fairly.

OK with some research 21.5t motors are not cheaply available. How about 17T motors, thats an equivalent to an 27T old stock motor and Hobbyking do them sensor-less for as little as £15. You'd spend that on two sets of tyres without even thinking about it.

We all have silver can / sport tuned and stock 27t motors lying around so that's wot I'm going to run with lipo up there bums there not that bad

Surely Vintage racing should include Vintage running gear as well otherwise it isn't Vintage. An exception should be made for radio but speedos and motors should be Vintage or modern equivilent.

Vintage cars dont handle so well at high speed and if you start hitting track marking and other cars and breaking things people will get put off very quickly. You need to make it fun and exciting and when you have lots of cars the same speed it makes the racing.

I wont be racing Vintage but just be careful how you set this up and try and get it right from the beginning so that people keep coming back for more.
