Dex 210 rtr running gear in classic Ultima...

Hi guys,

Ill be upgrading the servo, speedo, motor (13.5t) from my Durango and would use this gear in the Ultima (when I find one!) And use a Nimh shaped lipo so no chassis chopping. I seem to recal spur gear choice was limited when I had one 25 years ago, so would I need a weeny pinion?

Should that all work ok?

Also I bet the standard red shocks won't be much cop on track so I guess the gold shocks would be ok?

Cheers all

I'm sure the old lady will be fine. Just don't go crazy with timing as you don't have a slipper, I would start with blinky mode (no dynamic timing).

You will need a 0.8 or 32dp pinion if you are running the stock gear.

If you want to fit gold shocks, you will need taller tower, the original stock towers of the first Ultima are only ment for the short red shock.

Thanks Gayo.
Was there a better diff and slipper produced that would work better?

Turbo Optima's counter gear is spring/slip protected, you might want to use that one.

You'll have to learn to set up and drive a car without a slipper, there isn't a slipper for the Ultimas.
The Turbo Optima 'slipper' isn't actually a slipper as such, it's just a heavy spring holding the plastic gear between two washers, it's designed purely to absorb any sudden shock loads going through the drivetrain to prevent you damaging the gears.

For gearing, to match the Durango gearing of 29/81 the Ultima would need a 17T 32DP pinion.

Try to get the battery to go in the length. I 've done several with full size packs, which wasn't easy. But with a shorty pack it should be pretty easy.

Thanks guys!

I am even more excited about getting one now!

I won a bid on eBay! It looks good. I need a complete body and wing, original wheels too. Can you get re manufactured wheels?

Ooo I quite like that idea. Have you got more details/pics of that?

Not all of them, but that should give you some ideas of what you can do off the beaten paths ;)
