Looks great!

What chassis have you used on this build?

Naushad 11-06-2013 11:44 AM

I believe its the cf one.

Looks lovely Naushad!

I'm just about to rebuild my first RC, an OMCS, and wondered if I could pick everyones brains.

The shell and undertray are original but I did a very amateur paint job to say the least, more box of frogs than box art.... Is there any preference between the Bluegroove or Marwan options for a repro? Also is it worth paying the extra for original Kyosho decals or are the repros pretty close?

Lastly, I seem to remember the shocks and wheels were mounted with nylon nuts (which lost their edges in a few meets) so changed them to standard metal ones. Are these nylon ones still available? Or is this pointless as they didn't seem to last.

Sorry for all the questions, and really appreciated.

Hey!

Thank you for the comments.

Team Bluegroove have so many shells making them really popular amongst vintage and modern rc enthusiasts.

Having used Marwan and TBG, for Kyosho Marwan's shells and decals are closer to th real thing. I use Marwan for most of my repros. He does good deals aswell.

I have the original nylon nuts but you are right that they are a bit ragged round the edges so I plump with modern metalwork instead. I guess it's personal preference and the purist may insist on the nylon nuts.

Many thanks Naushad, that is great info on the shells, I'll plump for the Marwan one when they are back in stock.

I'm far from a purist! Thanks for letting me know on the nuts, as I wasn't sure.

All the best
Ashley.

That pretty much makes it a Turbo Optima Mid Special then, the CF chassis is extremely rare

Naushad 12-06-2013 11:26 PM

Can you show me a detailed pic of the cf chassis. I possibly have a few more of them. Anyway, it needs a few more bits like the ball diffs and anti roll bar to make it a TOMS.

Great build on a rare chassis! :)

Duratrax shocks? I have eight full sets of golds and they all have a lighter tone.

There are quite a few pics of the chassis in the thread for my TOMS

It may be that the chassis you have are vintage CF aftermarket chassis but I'm not sure anyone made anything other than the Trinity graphite ones?

Naushad 13-06-2013 10:57 PM

Hi Joel

I can see why you thought they were Duratrax. But actually they are original kyosho golds that were stripped and reanodised to a slightly darker gold.

I wish Teambluegroove had the decals along with the bodies. I am not sure but I think that their lexan is thicker. I bought three shells from Marwan which they are great, with decals and everything and the guy is Top Gold. But the TOMS body came with some areas as thin as onion skin . Fortunately are on the back and I did reinforce them.
I bought Teambluegroove's Javelin buggy, the one on ebay showing their wings and driver, and they also sent me a new spare wing and it was thick which I did appreciated.

By the way; Superb! Nice build!
