DB-01 Vs DF-03MS

Just wondering on what some of the off-road experts in here would suggest.

I would like to buy an electric tamiya off-road for a change from the on-road scene :D and need some advice:

Is it worth buying the DB-01 or spend the extra £15 and get the DF-03MS. I am on a budget and will leave the buggy stock without any hop-ups

Is the DF-03MS better than the DB-01 (both on stock form)? Main use will be bashing and some
racing with friend. Nothing on competition basis.

Thank you guys in advance

I,d go for a DB-01

I,m no expert but my Durga has been the better performer on and off the track....by a mile :D

you get more for your money with the DF03MS but the DB-01 is far better as it is more robust and far easier on room for electrics too, plus wheels are easier to come by,

for a more durable buggy go with the db01 i have heard alot of people breaking stuffs on their df03 but like dcm said if you want more for your money then the df03ms it is

Thank you guys. That is what i was thinking in the first place (more for the money) but i thought is better to ask some experts in case Tamiya was polishing a turd :D

I think DF-03MS is the wise choice for entry level
Cheers guys, help much appreciated :) :) :)

you are right though, they are polishing a 'turd'. I bought a DF-03 and gave up on it, I went down the route of the 3Racing chassis etc, but it never worked right, and you would struggle getting smaller pinions on due to the obstructions on the motor. If you were looking more 'long term' with an odd spend on upgrades, the DB-01 is the better buy completely.

i think you made me change my mind DCM :D

DB-01 it is then... (Just a week from saving the money for it) :)

Cheers DCM

the money you save buying the DB-01, order up the slipper clutch, that should see you through to buying front driveshafts, and if you are crash prone, the 3Racing suspension mounts.

i think you made a wise choice of choosing the db01 over the df03ms from what i see the db01 is more durable than the df03 and you can do wonders with it for the df03ms its just still a df03 with some hop ups :woot:

mog ruith 12-08-2008 04:03 PM

and one more thing sont forget to get the slipper clutch its one of the most basic hop up to get first when getting the db01 :D

Dont waste your money with a DF03, is a piece of crap.

The DB01 is 10 times better, durable with high quality parts and glass reinforced plastics.

Also my old DF03 with tons of hop ups was unable to perform like the stock DB01

Thank you guys for your replies. Help much appreciated :) :) :) :)

base hop-up

I have db01 durga and I tell you must buy slipper clutch and TRF501x damper set becose it is base hop-up:)

Spr0k3t 15-08-2008 03:42 AM

Running db01 baldre as my primary buggy running brushless. The slipper and damper set is a must. I would also recommend getting a one-way bearing for the front as well, regardless of running brushless or not.

one-wey for sand track is very worse becose I have one-wey in my durga and I do sales 360

durgaPL 14-10-2008 04:27 PM

DURGA is the best rc bugy 4wd model on the world!

I LOVE DURGA ! ! !

That's a touch harsh, I have a DF03 which didnt do too badly at Newbury the other night, a wheel came off true, but that's just ppp on my part. Of course, a car that's over £100 will more often than not be slightly better than the one costing less, way of life. But to just blurt out "its a piece of crap" is a little judgemental. Whats wrong anyway? you keep breaking it when you hit things at full throttle?:D

If you intend to leave it box stock and use it for 90% bashing I'd get a standard DF-03 rather than an MS. Its a simple design after all and the simpler the better if you're not looking to stretch it.

However, if you do decide to go racing then I totally agree with most of the above comments, the DF-03 is not really up to it and would be quickly outclassed by a DB-01, let alone the B44's and suchlike that are prevalent in 4WD classes.

Dude, some people like their DF-03s for what they use them for, many of the people who are disappointed probably expected far more from the kit than it was capable of delivering in reality.

No argument that the plastic used is indeed much better than the old-skool Tamiya ABS stuff.

Just as in real life, you can spend buckets on a car but if the basics aren't right you are basically peeing in the wind. Sadly the basics of the DF-03 do not a good race car make but its a fairly safe basher IMHO.

That's what I said:p
