Weight kits for XB4 - necessary?
 

Does anyone use weights in their XB4's? Just got mine, so trying to see what stuff I need for it:) Anyone?

Nathan Ralls has some weights in his car and a few people have said that lipo weights really help settle the back end of the car down

tempted to get some and try them out but quite happy with hos I have my car at the minute

It's another track tune option. It does settle the car down on the bumps and in the wet.

I've used various combinations of 10g in each rear triangle, and 10g each side of the motor mount, 15g under rear propshaft and both 40g and 60g under each lipo. On the slippery indoors tracks my preferred weight is definitely the just the 60g under each lipo, but not so sure in the higher grip tracks. Need to try less on the high grip astro tracks now we're using them. I've only ran the 60g at Batley outdoors which is un-grippy astro and grass.

At this last weekends RHR dirt I was running my 60g under each lipo and the car was good, but in practice afterwards ran the car without the weight, and it felt better and lighter on the clay, with no adverse affect to the rear grip, which i didn't expect.

The car does like to over rotate at the rear on the lose stuff, I'd spent all winter trying to tame that. Ralls Racing rear shock towers with the additional link holes do the trick, as does a bit of under-lipo weight.

as said above i have been developing 2 weight sets for the car. the first is now released through my shop (under lipo kit) and offers 3 variations of weight. the second (due shortly) is the under gearbox weight. i have found that in "most" conditions these weights improve feel and laptimes. judging by the amount i have sold others feel the same. as said above this and the rear tower really transform the car

I think I just got the last two. Cracked one at RHR this weekend, and got the other for a mate. More on the way Nathan said.

Going by how my RR tower held (it's cracked but still usable), and another racers kit tower snapped the RR towers are much stronger for sure.

it's a must have item considering the geometry fix!

I'd get a 3rd diff. For quick and easy oil change swapouts and incase of an outdrive failure,so you have one built and ready to go.


I did my first outdrive ragging the car on the RHR dirt track after the meeting. I have the up-stop orings in place, but still managed to break it fooling about.

I also killed my first plastic gear set that's been in use since xmas. I was using 3k oil on the rear in the dirt.

I also killed some wheel bearings. One outer race is cracked and split!

The car is mega strong though, I really gave it a beating!

I'd highly recommend getting some avid slip bearing oil or other bearing oil and oiling all bearings as suggested in the manual.

I thought it was a con to sell hudy oil.
now i have a squeaky bearing :P

The good thing about under lipo weights is the ease of removal. On high grip astro I run without but do have 12g inside gear case.

Yup.

I've tried 40g/side also, but 60g/side was best on the low-grip indoor tracks, and has worked for me outside on medium-low grip tracks.

Taking my indoor setup outside, I'm now experimenting removing some weight.

A bit off-topic: I've now driven the car two days at my local track. I've had no parts or optional springs etc, and we run minipins with all the psycho grip they can offer. I've had to cut off pins and glue the edges, but the car has been absolutely awesome. Built by manual apart from 2x1.6 pistons with losi 35/30 oil, and the car is planted as f****k. I've shattered the track record with more than half a second... No matter what I do, it lands completely dead. Love it!

So are the front ones for tuning? And rear ones the necessary ones?
