Transponder Missing Laps
 

Anyone else having problems with their “Harry” transponder missing laps on the TM2?

The first time it missed a lap, it was on the top deck just back from the servo. We moved it down onto the chassis behind the servo so it was transmitting through 1 piece of carbon fibre. It was much worse there missing several laps.

Maybe we have a weak / faulty transponder? This has never occurred at 3 of the tracks we visit. It has happened at 2 other tracks with no one else missing laps that day.

Is it a carbon fibre signal blocking problem or the transponder?

I had the same problem with my Harry, I ended up putting it in front of the servo so it only has to go through the plastic, it hasn't missed a beat since :)

There didn't look to be enough flat area in between the servo and the centre boss, so good to hear there is.

Same here, cost me the first two rounds at the Silverstone regional... :(

You can do a test with 2 part of double tape.
Some it's better.

I use just Rc4 lap conter and never problem

I can't remember the guys name but he was doing timing at silverstone regional. He spoke at length to Chris Hampson about the orientation of transponders and how the signal is sent out of the PT. basically if you are missing laps a big percentage of issues are not where it is mounted but the direction it is facing.try turning it 90 degrees and see what happens.

The wire is going into the transponder from the side of the car at the moment. I will change it tonight to the wire enters the transponder from the rear of the car. Thanks for the tip.

Which way is your transponder mounted?

As far as i'm aware it is only important that it is mounted flat on the chassis with the transponder number facing up. Mounting it on its side would potentially cause problems.

I wonder if it is more to do with a voltage drop, as the Loop on sunday was at the exit of a corner before the jump, so you would have been hard on the power. What rounds did it happen in? I'm just curious if it only happened once the grip was high.

If it is this, a power cap on the reciever would probably solve the problem.

1st round missed 7 laps and then fine from then on. IRRC it was slow'n damp in round 1 then got quicker, then slow'n wet in finals. No other issues with that PT that day.

Very odd. Steven's Dad moved it and all was well. Weird as it checked in fine, then was hit and miss for 1 race only.

The other track where it missed was also at the exit of a corner. However it was perfect at Silverstone (super high grip!) last night with the loop at the exit of a corner :confused: As the spare port is being used to power a motor fan and we have not had any steering glitches we will see how it goes with the transponder moved forward onto the plastic bottom plate.

It makes no difference to which way the PT Harry is orientated. Double check how far apart the loop is spaced and make sure its parallel. 12 to 14 inch apart. If no joy and running a rc4 decoder, then alter the squelch settings. Speak to Rob at BBK.
I also run a TM2 and the above have all been issues at places where it has not counted.
Mine too is now in the plastic nose in front of servo.:thumbsup:

Hi having pt trouble as well :( . Pt is definitely ok tried in another car .
Has anyone got a definative answer to this . Its twisting my melon!

I think the carbon fibre chassis and aluminium braces make a pretty good block for the PT signal.

Mine had problems flat on the chassis, but it's been okay now it's slightly over hanging on the top deck. I'm tempted to move it to the plastic nose to be sure, although I haven't had any issue since it's been on the top deck.

Thought this myself , seems to be affecting some and not others :(
