tlr22 too wide with minipins
Tried to fit my 22 in the BRCA mid south region "official box" the other day with Schumacher minpins and it was just too wide at the rear to move without restriction. Has anybody else found this and how did you sort it (i've got 3.5 toe on the back)?

losi 22 width
Hi there, this is my first season with the 22,tried mine as standard with the yellow wheels and schue green mini pins on the front and ballistic greens on the rear in our official mid west box 250mm width brca box in it fitted with room to move.I did try some older kyosho wheels and other hex wheels and they were fine, you haven't got the extra with alloy hexes on have you.Hope this helps. jon

pesky badger, are you running stock hexes?
|
Never had a problem with mine in the east of england box and I ran the +1.5mm hexes all last year although I haven't tried on mini-pins, but was fine with mini spikes, ballistic spikes and Dboots.
|
The hexes are standard - the problem is only with Schumacher minipins because the tyre carcass overhangs the wheel rims and puts it right on the width limit (or rather, a fraction over).
I even tried old xxx rims with the hexes removed, but the width remained the same. |
As crazy as it sounds you may be right, my toe in gage has a legal width check feature and with Schumacher mini pins it is coming out really borderline. It suspect it would be tight in a box of the gage's width.
I've never checked before, I don't race outside my local club... That's with 4 degree and it looks like it is just narrowly over legal, perhaps 3 deg or less toe in it would be OK? |
I was hoping not to have to get a new toe-in block, but that may be the only way
|
When I ran my 22 I spent five minutes before scrutineering massaging the mini pins on the wheel hey presto it goes in ;)
|
Someone also mentioned about greasing the edges so they slide in the box, or was that another conversation entirely? :woot:
|
"That's what she said" seems like the appropriate thing to say now... ;)
It does surprise me a little of how many threads I see about a certain car being too wide for racing, I know manufacturers what to get it as close as possible to the limit for performance reasons... But perhaps they push a little much. |
The minipins seem to be a bit uneven now and then... At the nordic champs a couple of years back we dremeled the sidewalls to get the cars into the box.

you have to mount and glue them on a special way to get it to fit.
leave the inside edge of the tyres hangiong off the rim and glue the outside at this time, once dry then u can mount the inside edge onto rim |
I know they are not as soft as the Proline tires, but could it be that you can kind of move the tread from side to side? If so, you could move it to the inside by pushing and pulling the main surface of the tire to the inside, making the bulge on the inside bigger and on the outside smaller. If you do this everything after driving before delivering it they can't give you *&%! about the car being too wide :p

That was the same conversation lol It doesn't matter this year, the round in question won't use the box. (Posted on the Eurostar) |
You could look at using different thickness axle shims and place either side of hub to move driveshaft/pin/hex back and make the track slimmer.
Not a problem i've had with 22 as Minipins are not homologated for our BRCA Regionals but they do sit a lot wider than minispikes etc and ican get my 22 with 1.5mm hexes and mispikes in the box no problem... rubs slightly with BB minispikes but just keep scrutineer distracted when you squeeze it in! (the car in the box that is!) now whats this about a greasy box?! :woot: |
22:thumbsup: like a bar of soap in the bath on the track
Try and put it in an offical box and then it sticks :woot: :wub love my 22 btw  |

As I understood it, mini pins are to be used at DMS without the box, thought this was agreed at the meeting in February???:confused: as DMS round was on carpet and a one off?
|
Thanks for all the suggestions; I think I'll give the tyre mounting option a go, just in case the box is going to be used - there's only one way to find out if it is.........fight!!

Stu,
Would appear I've misheard/misunderstood a decision at the BRCA organisation meeting in the Wnter, and the BRCA Qis to be used. Sorry for any confusion. Neil |
