MERCC (Mid Essex Radio Car Club)

The Mid Essex Radio Car Club (MERCC) race season is about to start so I thought this may be of interest to those that wish to race there.

We are situated close to Braxted Park, about 5 minutes from the A12.

A typical race meeting has classes for 2wd Electric Buggies, 4wd Electric Buggies, Short Course Trucks and 1/8th (Nitro's - Electric 1/8th mixed until enough are available for a class).

For those not familiar with MERCC, or those that have not visited for a few years, we are a friendly club, offering a relaxed atmosphere in addition to competitive racing. The track is 35% larger than it was in 2010, and is grass with features (astro table top, concrete/astro ramp/bombhole, astro whoops and a portable crossover jump). We rarely run the same configuration of track twice. We have a purpose built rostrum, well maintained toilets, a large flat grass parking area, RC3 timing form race control (supports MRT's).

Perhaps our USP is our Chairman Keith. Keith offers an active commentary throughout the day from race control (new speaker system this year so you can hear his witty banter better) in addition to a very well organised race meet.

In addition to this, if you are interested in trying our club out, YOUR FIRST EVER RACE MEETING AT THE CLUB IS FREE!

Many on Oople would vouch for us. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

I am not the most experienced of racers so I am not your definitive guide. Having said that many of the 2wd and 4wd boys run Yellow Mini spikes and other 4wd guys run Multibyte's.

We have a lot of grass coverage this year (very few dirt patches) so tyres tend to last longer. A few years ago we weer riddled with worn dirt areas that needed more durable tyre choices - hence the multibyte choice.

I will run Schumacher Yellow mini spike's on the Rear of my DEX410 and Cut Staggers on the front. Pretty similar with 2wd.

Thanks David

I'll be running my 210 & 410 so that's cool
See you in June !!

I noticed you have a cross over jump, are these ok to run in a regional? I thought they were not allowed, prob wrong.

If the rules state that we can't use it as a crossover then we can use it as a tabletop,no problem.

Taken from the 1/10th off road rules on the B.R.C.A web site....

14. THE TRACK
14.1 Safety procedures as detailed in General Rules 6, 8 & 9 must be adopted. The rostrum and steps must be of sound construction. The design of steps should conform to recognised dimensions. Guard rails of suitable strength and position must be in place.
14.2 Tracks will be laid out so that there are no hidden areas when viewed from the driver’s rostrum area.
14.3 Track markings must be placed to define the track lay-out and to minimise any corner cutting.
14.4 Tyres will not be used to define the track at BRCA National and Regional Sanctioned events.
14.5 At all National format events outdoors, tracks will be a minimum of 3 metres wide and minimum 130 metres in length.
14.6 At Sanctioned events, other than Nationals, tracks must be a minimum of 2.4 metres wide.
14.7 The straight for starting finals, will be a minimum of 20 metres long, with no obstructions, including any form of jump, sudden rise or fall.
14.8 Start and finish lines must be marked. A ‘penalty line’ must be marked 2 metres in front of and parallel with the qualifying start line.
14.9 All tracks will have a designated ‘pull-off’ area for cars that have completed a race.
14.10 At all National events, there will be a designated ‘stop go’ penalty area.
14.11 All finals will have staggered grid starts at 2 metre intervals and two rows of cars. The top qualifier will choose which side of the grid they wish to start from.
14.12 The track will be closed to any kind of use, whether for race events or practice, by anyone, including the club’s own members, for the whole of the seven day period immediately prior to the commencement of a National event.

Might come along to this as we have a regional coming up later in the year. What time do you kick off David?

David1976 19-04-2013 12:56 PM

Check in between 8.45am and 9.15 although many of us get down there a bit earlier and set up.

I will be there from about 8.45 so feel free to come and see me and I'll introduce you to some of the guys.
