time to upgrade my compressor - advice please...

Fellow painters ... now I know a good workman never blames his tools, BUT .... I've been chipping away with my old compressor for some time now. It has no tank, no regulator, no moisture trap.

I know, I know, "how do I still produce such amazing work" I hear you ask.... well anyway, I've decided to upgrade, and want to know where the money is best spent.

I've found this little combo....

http://www.graphicsdirect.co.uk/prod...0-airbrush-kit

which includes a 0.5mm airbrush, which I thought would be useful, and perhaps be "wide" enough to spray liquid mask.

Thoughts & advice welcome ... is there anything else I should consider as an alternative??

Hello Andy,

I think a few on here including myself would recommend a Bambi. I use the cheapest of the range, and it's a very nice compressor. Mr Paint by Ian recommended to me, and what a recommendation, it's been amazing.

The one your looking at look's like one of those cheap Chinese things but wrapped in a fancy case? I could be wrong though...

I don't think 0.5 is wide enough to spray liquid mask... Would you thought you need a spray gun of 1.3 ish - Then again I've never tried it as it's seems like hassle to clean the thing out after.

I managed to spray LM through my .35mm airbrush .... it just took an age to do.

Easy to clean though, to be honest. Cold water.

I know my pal Shilly got the Bambi and he loves it. Does look like something Jack Bauer should be defusing though.

Ta for the pointer.

Bambi all the way... then we'll know exactly how you get those stunning results on your shells :p

Try here - http://www.aircomps.co.uk/product-ca.../bambi-budget/

These are remarkably cheap too, I think they're RRP is more than £100 over this price so really good value on either my link or the one Steve directed you to above. Check if they have VAT or carriage.

Great compressors ! Especially if you are using a 0.5 nozzle, you'll be surprised how quick the tank would want to fill up on a little compressor.

Personally though, I'd get the Bambi, if you look after it you won't ever have to buy another compressor for the rest of your airbrushing career :D

ALTERNATIVELY.... if you know someone who can fix fridges... they can build you for you, there's even a thread for it within this lovely painty section on oOple :) and... ta da here it is... clicky

I bought an Iwata SilentAir 'Tiger Shark' from airbrushes.com three or four years ago, and have never looked back. It wasn't cheap, but it'll run my airbrush from a gnats fart, up to ridiculous psi. It's almost completely silent and has been an absolute joy.

cheers
