Kyosho Turbo Optima gold celebration repro..FINISHED

Love the gold celebration turbo optima.

So I wanted one and cheated a little in the process

Started off with this good substrate that I nabbed on eBay

I was fortunate to get a belt drive conversion!

Front end in good nick...just some old dirt!

Here are most of the alloy components after the tear down. Scratches in most.

Here are the same parts after a little anodising.

Starting the rebuild!

Rear end done!

Most Chassis also completed!!

Oh my... I'm blown away by the result! Looks superb :wub

I wish I had the knowledge or the connections doing stuff like this. Correct me if I'm wrong but the bottom plate was never part of the original gold celebration kit right? Was it ever sold separately? If not, your build will be unique just with that detail.

Following this with big interest.

....

Naushad 25-03-2013 01:30 PM

That's a good question. I tend to think not, the reason being is that this spacer plate came in a set that included servo plates/spacer. I don't think these latter items were part of the gold celebration kit. However I may be wrong too!

I'm glad you like it. I'll be adding a few other unique touches so it won't be an exact replica but I think one worth staring at!

The underguard wasn't seen until the Turbo Optima, it was never available in the gold finish. But it does look great.

The plate under the servo saver/steering arms was part of the celebration kit though. These are all the parts that were included:

Nice work there Naushad correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like your front lower guard is bent where the bumper screws to.

I was kinda thinking of doing something like this myself.

Keith ;)

Hi Keith,

Hmm..I will need to check this carefully as the build progresses. If it is bent significantly I'll have to correct it.

No I did look into doing this myself but it seemed too much hassle so I sent it to someone in the UK who did the job for an excellent price which included stripping, anodizing and polishing.

The chaps name is Adam of absmetals. Nice guy!

I went through the same process with my Optima a few years back. Looks good but the real Option House gold is clearer.

Naushad 26-03-2013 09:24 AM

I know Gayo. I saw your repro a long time ago posted on oople.

You are right. "Kyosho gold" is somewhat lighter but my repro is not far off!

j0pp3 26-03-2013 09:43 AM

It look like something between gold an copper but I still love it. Thanks for outing the source of production

What a nice piece of vintage!

What happened to the motor guard?

ozipanda 30-03-2013 10:42 AM

This is how I got it, I am assuming this is how it came as everything was in the box including the original purchase receipt from 1988, decals and manual. The steering servo was attached to the chassis with Blu-tack,:o which would probably explain why the car has hardly been used and was about to be thrown away! I plan to rebuild it as there are missing screws and some binding in the transmission.
