1/18 which one
 

HI there

looking for a bit of advice

i currently race a dex210 and 410

i want to get my daughter a 1/18 buggy but do not know what brand or type to get
was thinking of a buggy not truck or short rourse

i saw the maverick ion but not sure on part availability for the inevitable crash

fancy the ftx blaze but what else

any thought would be great

lrp shark is a good choice
the associated rc18 's are good.
but nowadays alot of the 1/18 are custom made etc.

the ion is okay for club level... and they dont really break unless you brushless it then the gears get chewed.

In terms of micro buggies...everything you've mentioned except the RC18 is a bit out of date I think.

The scales have all gotten a little muddled these days, with people calling them 18th/16th/14th etc etc, but really they are all much the same.

In terms of cars that are raced and supported for parts etc, then look at the Carisma cars...the GT14B or the new GTB is coming soon. Losi do the mini 8. Schumacher have just started importing selling something too, so that could be worth looking into.

All those, plus the RC18, are all currently being manufactured, so have parts support. The Carisma and mini 8 both come in RTR form I think, which could suit your daughter.

The RC18 is not really very active as a race car though, the Carisma and Losi are much more popular for club racing, more robust, easier to drive, better supported, etc, etc.

Not meaning to tread on the toes of Nitroman, but even at national level pretty much only the 2wd's at a national level at custom built (with the exception of the chunk and Mr Davies machine in the 4wds) So don't worry about turning up with an RTR!

Racing in Micros is open and friendly every car except the Carisma GTB can be bought as an RTR and they form the back bone of the club support we have.
Sadly things have moved on a bit from the original RC18 / Maverick IoN / Shark / Blaze. Although with a skilled pair of hands and a bit of fettling they can spring a surprise on flatter tracks, sadly the updated rc18b2/t2's didn't fare much better as the bigger 16/14th scales are massively easier to drive and come with a brushless and 2.4ghz set up - ready for the track!

If you're just after a basher though, there is nothing wrong with the IoN from maverick, cheap cheerful ad will take an alarming amount of punishment - like the HPI Recon. parts are cheap too (then again they are for the bigger cars and they give you scope to go racing once you're bored of flat out hoonery ;)
