Flashing red light on speed passion pro

Evening,

Just starting out with electric cars. Just finished building b44.1 with speed passion pro and 7.5 turn speed passion sensored motor.

Everything seems to work ok but the speed controller red and orange light start solid but once I accelerate once the red light just constantly flashes. The orange stays solid.

I am running lipo 2s 5100mah which are fully charged. The book says red flashing light means low voltage but doesn't seem like it is this due to fully charged battery.

Any ideas?

Thanks James

Lipo cut off maybe set wrong???

Turn both the lipo cut off voltage off along with the overheat protection. Just don't run the car for any longer than 5-7 mins on a fresh battery and it'll be fine.

how old is the motor, new or second hand? as if it works once then the lights come on that could be a problem, I used to swear by SP motors,(always second hand to keep costs down:blush:) but I have been let down by connector and sensor board problems way before the rest of the motor has seen better days.

It is all brand new out of box. Just the b44.1 used rolling chassis. Even with light flashing it seems to operate fine.

Thanks

Which speed passion is it?

fidspeed 12-02-2013 09:52 PM

Col is possibly onto something

i was troubled by a similiar issue with a speed passion eventually worked out it was a "stock" speedo and the flashing led couldnt be switched off

Could be the sensor wire, I get a flashing red light if my sensor cable works its way loose. Jab it in with the tip of a hex driver on either side, it's normally accompanied by a drop in performance too, I'm not running stock software though, as others have indicated it could be running blinky.

I have a Hobbywing which is a similar ESC. If I have a red flashing light it means that the Speedo and the transmitter aren't sync'd. There is a sequence of button presses that you have to go through so that you get full throttle and correct braking.

On mine, the light is off at neutral, red through the mid throttle part and green when it hits full blast!

Check your instructions....

Jimmy

Thanks guys

I am taking it for its first outing tomorrow night so will try the various items mentioned above and hopefully find the fault.

The controller is a speed passion reventon pro.

Will let you know

James

If its reventon is it in stock0 if so its to tell ppl the hold national events ur blinky legal , just plug the programmer in and check the firmware that's installed

Same problem

Still the same.
Have emailed speed passion to see what they say.
Has anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks

James

I have the same thing happen every time I go to reset mine.
I forget one of the steps.

Go to page 3 of the user manual,
and when you go to set the calibration settings (neutral, full throttle, full brake) you have to press the little red "reset button" on the ON/OFF switch each time (3 total).
If you don't, then the ESC will just flash red.

This is the answer if its fresh out of the box on stock firmware. indicates blinky mode. If its other firmware its abnormal voltage

if you plug the programmer in it will show you the voltage the ESC is seeing, if it's ok maybe a firmware glitch, you could try reinstalling the firmware, or probably better try it on one of the others then put it back.

Blinky mode should flash at switch on, not after the throttle is opperated as original poster has claimed.

Tried changing the firmware to Mod1 but still the same, current voltage is 7.4v but it does the same on a fully charged battery? just to be clear it only flashes when throttle it on, in neutral one minute it has both red and orange light (solid) and the next i switch it on only the orange light is solid but when i use the throttle the red light starts to flash!

that sounds like a dicky sensor. have you tried it with a different motor / sensor cable?
