Servo juddery

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the cause could be to why my servo, when centering itself, judders like mad for a few seconds? (when i say judder, i mean 'flickers from left to right really fast').

I'm not sure i'd be able to tell on the track that this is happening, but it's beginning to freak me out a bit, and it can't be good for the servo itself :bored:

cheers all,

Stanners

What servo and what radio are you using?

Could be you're using an analogue servo and a digital transmission mode, which will kill the servo in the long run.

A digital servo can 'hunt' for neutral if there is any slack at all in the gears. Try some thick grease on the gears, that should sort it ;)

Wow, you learn something new everyday.

It's a KO2343 servo, 6v, and a KO Helios Radio (although it's done it for every radio i've had).

Interesting point that Northy, I have been told before that it could be the servo motor that could be goosed?

I'd get a new one, but i'm a tight ass:woot:

Is the receiver/tranny digital? I had some problem with a non digital tranny and that servo.

If your gonna get a new one i'll dispose of your old one ;)

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with it, the motor has nothing to do with it hunting.

It's all digital, and i've used loads of different radio sets with it (not for that reason, i just have)

so, it's ok doing that, just ignore it and stop being gay?

Northy 02-07-2008 11:29 AM

It's fine, as soon as there is some load on it (i.e. going round a track) it'll stop doing it.

Don't worry. Be happy!

Stan, i've got a 2123 that does it - and that does have a lot of play in the gears. Must admit it did start to freak me out, but even if you put it on ground it doesn't do it. so shouldn't be a problem.

Just to agree with the above, on my X5 (xx4 steering play) if I hold the car up and flick a wheel it judders around the neutral forever as the slop in the steering gives it momentum and it hunts back and forward continuously.

Put your finer against the servo horn and it stops, so you know it's not the servo internally doing it.

It is worrying though until you realise.

awesome, thanks all for your help on this:thumbsup:
