Leaky shocks with Northy whities

Did a rebuild with northy withies and 2 of the 4 shocks are leaking after 1 club meeting.

I have another set build with the standar red/orange O-rings without any problems?

How can this be as with my associated shocks they are perfect?

TIA

you havnet built them right

simple

what shocks are they?

and did you replace the parts inside the shocks as well or just the o rings?

Hi,

I'm talking about Losi Shocks. As you know they are very simple to rebuild/build.

Never had a problem with the normal O-rings in the Losi shocks.

As I said before, they are perfect in the asso shocks.

Thanks

i never heard of these nortech 'withies' it maybe your rebuild kit i'd rebuild them again and make sure you everything in the right order and properly in place with no flashing on the washers, I had a big problem with this when i had my b44 at the start of the year ruining a few of my regionals as the rear shocks would have nothing left in them after a few races and this was with the standard red orings, after i rebuilt them with a new rebuild kit they havn't leaked since and have been running whities a while now and have been on the losi shocks on my x6 too and not had problems at all

I installed some new whities in Losi shocks at the weekend and they were perfect.

I had to do it because the cartridge kept blowing its top off, did you do it on a new cartridge? that could be the problem.

Are all the shocks doing it? I have them in my losi and their perfect....

He said only 2 of the 4 shocks are doing it ian :p

Have you torn them when putting the shaft through?

Mine have been perfect in ae, losi and aero shocks, its all i use now.

delanobe 01-07-2008 11:33 AM

I used new cartridges so that can't be the problem.

I even put green slime on the shock shafts to make sure the o-rings aren't torn when putting them in?

Maybe it's just bad luck. ;)

check the orings and put new whities in you can't be sure that they are torn without checking them yourself

I did the following and mine are perfect.

new cartridge
use the standard spacer
2x new whities in there

no slime or anything - dry cartridge

put the shaft in with the non-threaded end after dipping that end in the oil you are going to use 30wt or 35wt or whatever

done

delanobe 01-07-2008 11:59 AM

I will try your steps.

Thanks for the help.

I also twist the shaft when i put it in the cartridge, never ripped any seals yet.

You could try one whitie and one 'reddy' that's what I used to do when schumacher used white o-rings and 2 leaked like buggery!

I guess the Nortech whities are a different thing than the Schumacher ones, but low friction = more chance of leaking, you can't really have low friction and low leakage when using the same material...

(unless Nortech whities are made of a material not of this planet, which may be possible....) :D

On average people re-build thier shocks once a month.

For on-road carpet/asphalt it's much different, maybe once a year.

your shock oil must be fermenting :D so what if you want to change your set up ?
