Raising sv2 steering by 4mm
I'm in the process of building my SV2 and am looking to raise the steering by 4mm using the optional spacers.
What length screws will I need, and which ball studs do I need to get? |
Hi Arran
I ran my Sv2 at Bury for the first time last Sunday but ran it kit standard. Woody has given me advice on build tips inc raising the Ackermann and ball studs 4mm but said nothing about using longer studs and screws but saying that Roger built his car so he probably wouldn't know ha! I haven't started modding my car yet so I'm not totally sure, hopefully somebody on here can enlighten us. Chris |
you dont need longer screw for raising ackerman 4mm , but you do need large or xlarge ball studs for adding bump steer

You need to learn to stay off the drink and read things correctly before trying to pick holes in it. :p |

it doesn't alter dump steer as you jack up the outer ball studs as well,
it also doesn't alter Ackerman, what it does is makes the steering act as though it has some ex potential on it making it slower over the first part of the movement and faster at the end (full lock) |
I've heard the mod is to calm the front end down so what you say Carl says sounds about right.

The ball cups stay the same height from said track rod. If the car is on it's wheels then the correct terminology would be to say the ball cups were elivated but as your cars spend more time on their roofs then the ball cups will probably be lower. |

so you lift the steering rack by 4mm, which the ball studs attach to, and you add 4mm under the outer ball, which lifts the whole track arm 4mm higher that the lower arm, and you still say the ball cups do not move higher! you are a star! elevated [ˈɛlɪˌveɪtɪd] adj 1. raised to or being at a higher level |
Right, i have an SV2 and done this adjustment, no it doesn't alter ackerman, no it doesn't affect bump steer either, yes you need longer ball studs, it raises the heght of the steering arm in relation to the wheel, yes it raises ball stud, yes it calms the steering down.
That clear things up? |
