New DB1 Owner!

Hello,

Right I am just getting back into the sport again and have paid for a second hand DB1 with a Tekin speedo and couple of sets of lipo's. I have just sorted a transmitter, receiver and 6.5 turn motor. Final part is a low profile servo which i hope to get sorted this week.

What i now need to do is get the following:
  • Tools - what is required, does anyone have a list of allen key sizes and nut drivers?
  • Pinions - what are the typical sizes for both indoor and outdoor running the 6.5 motor?
  • Spares - what are the common parts that break? I know lots of people run DB1's and RB5's but I like to carry spares.
  • Tuning Parts - what springs, anti-roll bars etc are needed?
Final thing, who can advise good base setups for the car?

Oh and only 4 days till i pick the car up......!!

Gareth

Good choice mate, DB1 is an awesome car and one of my fave.

Just use the base setup, you could find it at tonyevdoka.com.
You should also found with the car a list of tips to properly build it, we can help too.

Tools : find a good 2.00 hex driver (mostly used), a 1.5 and 2.5.

If you run Smallbores, you'll need silver front springs and Dark yellow/yellow rear springs, black, blue and Cobalt if you want to have all the usefull ones.

I recommend 3racing alloy rear link plates, the stock plastic part tends to break, just as it would on an FS2.

As for parts, I would say a couple of wishbones, front bulkead set, rear bulkhead and shock tower, hinge pins just in case (not often). I hardly break any parts but found after a lot of practice and races I had better change the plastics (once a year ?)

I used a 25 pinion with a 78 spur with a 7.5 and well, to be honest I would not recommend a 6.5 on a 2wd. If you want good punch and speed a 8.5 is good enough and even on the short therm you'll break less parts so this will not mean more money either, quite the opposite in fact
I came back to RC with a 2wd and 6.5 and it was not a good idea.

Anyway, Tony is always here for help on this car (among others).

Thanks

Looks like i need to go shopping!

I used to run a 6.5 indoors on my losi CR Mid Motor a couple of years ago, so i shall see how i get on to start with.

I will have a look at Tony's site for setups etc, need to start ordering stuff!

Hi Gareth,

Welcome back to racing! Nice choice for get back into it.. I think you'll be very happy.

Tomtom is spot on with the advice. Unfortunately the alloy camber plates are hard to get hold of at the moment - we have been trying without luck. They're not essential, but if you find some somewhere it's worth getting them.

I agree with Tomtom on the motor too - 7.5 or 8.5 is more than enough. I run Tekin also and with the setup options you have 8.5 would would be more than enough for any track you visit. I either an 8.5 or 7.5 for last years national series in my DB1. A Tekin Redline Gen2 would be my choice to go with the Tekin Speedo :)

Gearing on an 8.5 would be somewhere between 25 to 27 and on a 7.5 - 24 to 26

If you want a starting setup for the Speedo check our facebook page in the photo album section.

This is the basic setup we used the whole year. You don't really need to change much wherever you go to be honest. Stotfold Nationals Setup

Hope this helps
Kev

Batteries and motors are faster now, I used to run a 5.5 in my 2wd a few years ago. These days it's pretty standard to run 7.5 in 2wd and 6.5 in 4wd.

7.5 motor now sorted!

Puff!

Gaz, looking at all the bits the only thing I can see you will need is a servo horn for savox/futaba servos. The other 2 types are there but not the one for savox.

Kev I'm sure can confirm the part number you require.

How you fixed for Saturday morning collection?

James.

Saturday AM collection is fine still, I am working Sunday so i may need to come over first thing and leave fairly quickly though.

Will give you a text later to confirm details.

Thanks Kev,

I have just placed an order, though i think your paypal system is down at the minute. I think the website mentioned sending payment details afterwards. Will give you a call if nothing comes through by Monday PM.
