DETC 410 Touring Car!

So, Durango announce the signing of Elliot Harper and announce a new Touring Car coming soon.

Blimey, sounds promising though given how well their buggy's are going !

At first glance it may seem odd, on par with a successful World Rally Team saying "right, we've cracked that one lads, let's go and do F1" and so looking odd.

But even the analagy above isn't as daft at it would initially seem, as the keys to success in all forms of motorsport are the same, regardless of class or discipline you compete in. It is just the practical application of them that is different.

As Team Durango clearly understand the key requirements of success so well, having achieved so much, so quickly and so far reaching in offroad RC I think we will see their TC on the podium at the worlds and USA and European champs within a couple of years.

Good luck to them.

Also Ben Cosgrove is at Durango now. After leaving H.P.I ;)

I'd like too see a DEX410, with small shocks ad TC wheels!

I'm talking same electrics & lipo setup!

Origineelreclamebord 08-01-2013 11:14 AM

I was kinda expecting this to happen - even opened a topic on this a while back... (Link) - I'm curious, I hope they can make something original and refreshing happen for the touring market...

jo90 08-01-2013 12:55 PM

Im sure Durango will have their own take on it, likely with something inovative i'd have though. However bear in mind that the formula for making a TC seems pretty much set at the moment. The pivot style of the wishbones, geometry etc are all quite similar now across Tamiya - Xray with all the others between.

The good thing is you will know it is built well, the components should be very fairly priced and best still given the parts backup from Durango you wont go short on spares.

Any idea when they will release the kit

STP 08-01-2013 08:14 PM

I' am really curious how the first durango touring car will look like, as this will be the first completely new car after Michael Vollmer (the original design engineer of all the nice dex's out there) left the company. I doubt it will be ground braking (a completely new design would be a hughe risk), but I hope I'm completely wrong...

...let's bring it on!

telboy 19-01-2013 10:46 PM

Got to bear in mind that there are quite a few people there that have raced TC at top level too. It's not just a buch of off road guys there :)

stegger 19-01-2013 11:42 PM

Yeh as Tel said with the likes of Ben , Elliott and the rest of the team it will be interesting what they will come up with. They must have had something to get Elliott on board ! So I can't seeing it to far off. Also shaft or belt ? Belt is the preferred platform with other manufacturers but with the knowledge TD have with shaft driven cars it would be refreshing to see something in this direction.

Hatebreed 13-02-2013 06:08 PM

any news about the car?

jo90 13-02-2013 09:51 PM

Would be good if TD could at least release some taster info on the car. Won;t kill the suprise when it finally gets released

Team Durango already has a TC car running at the track in PORTUGAL... they just don't know it !

This project was done by Pedro Albuquerque and the full report is here ( it's in Portuguese ) :

From what I've seen/read so far, TD seems to be quite early in anouncing their plans/upcoming releases (DEX408 for example).

And you don't just make a model like this. Sure, just making any CAD model is 'easy enough.' However, with the development comes a lot of testing and revising - and sure before you even done any of that you want to have checked out the handling and nifty features on the cars of all competitors. Also keep in mind, TD haven't done an onroad car before.

Have a little patience, look at TD's cars so far... You know it will pay off!

@Mario: That's one very cool project, I'm sure this beast does very well!

So the car is looking like a clone of many on the market it seems. Saw the taster vid last night which has a clear'ish pic of the car.

One good thing is though given Durango's quality of parts it should be tough at least

Loheswaran 12-04-2013 10:10 AM

nice colour...

Could it be just a re-anodised car at this stage?

Apparently Elliott Harper is still using a yokomo bd7

It's not just a re-anodised car that you see in the pictures, this is the first time that most of the Team Durango car has run in anger.
Elliott had been using a BD7 at previous meetings he had been to, this was to allow us and Elliott to get a feel for what the current class leading car is like.

In the coming weeks the Team Durango car will rapidly approach it's final production state as we bring updates to the car out at each meeting... Although unlike F1, we won't need to fly them out :)
