Foam Tyres

Looking for some foam tyres for my X6 can somebody please point me in the direction of a company that sell them?

KickMe 05-01-2013 08:43 AM

I don't know any seller but you can make you own from 1/8 onroad rear tires. Check the pics on this french tutorial, it's worth a thousand english words.

Schumacher sell 1/8 size foams . We use foams at the south lakes club . Look on the schumacher site for contact 1/8th foams you will only have to cut for the fronts the rears fit good as they are .

Thanks chaps, I'll have a look on the Schumacher website.

Stuart,
The size quoted is 46 x 70 x 36mm is this the correct size and what shore rating do you run with your X6?

Try here :

stuart slmcc 05-01-2013 12:36 PM

There the ones . I run 40 shore ones on myn but other x6 owners at the club run 37 shore .

http://www.rc-direct.co.uk/-c-39_198_205.html I used to get these but some body said rc direct mite not have them again . If you can get them you need 2 donuts for a set . Measure and cut for the rears first then whats left for the front . I did it wrong the first time school boy error

With the schumacher ones http://www.racing-cars.com/sp/catego...ar_Donuts.html
They are sold as pairs I got myn from kamtec . They are spot on for the rears no cutting and you will only have to cut for the fronts .

Where abouts are you racing ?

Lee1972 05-01-2013 01:37 PM

Am after a set of foams for mine been looking round and seeing what people do thought you need to trim the thickness down to about 7mm side wall hight using a tyre truer ?

stuart slmcc 15-01-2013 11:35 AM

Theres no need to go mad by cutting them down to reduce the side wall . just true them up a little bit to round off the eadges a little . I just trued myn up on a drill with a long bolt in the middle and for the rear a old b4 axle worked well

ianjoyner 15-01-2013 05:51 PM

If you get the current Schumacher Contact 1/8th donuts there's no need to true them at all, they're already under 7mm when fitted. Even the edges will round off very quickly on the track.

What's the stuff he soaks it in to get the tyre off does it not damage the tyre?

KickMe 15-01-2013 10:48 PM

Acetone, it melts CA glue. You don't have to soak it in, just put some in a watertight container and let the vapors do the job in a few days. Careful though, it's a pretty nasty chemical, try not to sniff too much.
