Low Diff Height

What are peoples thoughts on how impotant the height of the diff is on a off road buggy.

Think of the losi xx4 and the tamiya 511 the tamiya has very large pullys making the height of the diff allot heigher than the losi xx4. this allows a much lower ride height with the losi whilst still keeping the wishbones/driveshafts level this has to be good for all right?

Thanks for any advice

Raising the diff/transmission gives more on power grip.
Lowering it gives more lateral bite but less on power traction.

XX-4 has small diffs and is ace on the bumpy stuff.
XXX-4 has huge diffs and is crap on anything but the smoothest tracks.

It's all to do with driveshaft plunge and the effects relative to the roll centre(s)
