D4 Brushless setup
Hi guys,
So my brushless motor and esc have arrived. Including my new "much more" 4500 mah Ni-mh 1.2v. The brushless system is the Sport tuned JR from Exige speed passion and the ESC from the same set. I'm using the Futaba 3pk and 2.4ghz Fasst Surface Module http://2.4gigahertz.com/modules/tx-modules.html Heres a shot of the motor and esc: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/DSCF1397.jpgj The motor is 13.5t but I want to know what other brushless systems that are as good as this one such as the novak or mamba series? Also what setup would you recommend for my system. I have lots of shims available and any new parts I can order quite easily. Is it possible to race with this motor and esc? Edd |
All of the main brushless systems are good, ie the Novak, LRP and Nosram models. The mamba's and GM's are also good, but i'm not 100% sure on how legal they are for BRCA events.
In terms of what is best for you for a brushless system and car set up it would be helpful to know what sort of track you are racing on and your ability level etc. |
I am running the SPGT 1.0 esc, Fasst receiver, 9550 servo, and banzai/sp 6.5 in my d4 and pretty happy with it.

Thanks for the replies.
MY RC HISTORY (only because you asked ;)) Well I've been driving rc since I was 6 when I got one of them little micro cars and then when I was 9 I got this random f1 car I really liked but still they were toys. When I was 12 I finally got something with some power and something I would build, the Lego Dirt crusher I still have today :) Then when I was 13 I got a Tamiya hornet so that was my first hobby standard car and I had my first race somewhere around lecestershire, Then I was given a very old and broken E-savage that I managed to fix whilst going through a dozen bottles of superglue and new screws. I had a few bashes with the e-savage but then I budgeted up and decided to get a D4 with a new radio system and a good brushless system. I've been racing for a couple months with my D4 but I only got my brushless system after doing a thousand or so "jobs" to save up. So I raced with a simple HPI 540 motor and I did pretty well I think. So now I have my brushless system, and my D4 at the ready. So I have a bit of experience, Im going to be racing on quite a weird track, (I might be able to get some photos), It has loads of different surfaces, Dirt, astro, grass fairly long (for the d4 anyway) and short. So Its basically something that can take a lot of different surfaces. Most of it is fairly long grass though I think so that would probably be the best option. Edd |
i must admit i don't know much about the speed passion products, hopefully someone who has used them can advise on the settings to use for the speedo. I would leave it at the default profile for the time being unless the manual gives different profiles for touring car and offroad etc.
You should be able to race with your system fine. You may find your car is a bit slower than the others as you are only running a 13.5 (depending if your club runs open modified or limits everyone to 13.5). But don;t upgrade the motor until you can happily race a 5 minute run with out crashing. If you put a faster motor in to try and keep up you will only crash more as the car will be more difficult to control. If you plan to race in the local regional championships then you may want to check your motor is BRCA legal. Look at the electric list on the BRCA website. In terms of the car set up for your D4, have a look at the link below which features set ups from all the team drivers. THe Batley set up from Adam will probably be a good starting point for you. http://www.hbeurope.com/setups.php?partNo=61410&lang=en |
