cutting minipin 2wd fronts?

Is it common for anyone to cut them to make a lower profile?

There are differences in handling between running them on a standard AE wide wheel (effectively a wider tyre with a lower profile), and a thin centro rim (a thinner tyre with a much higher profile). I find the thinner tyre more aggressive, and less easier to drive, while the wider tyre is smoother and more consistent. Which is better depends on your driving style and how it works for that track.

I tame the aggressiveness of these tyres by trimming the first outer row of pins. I find this helps loads in the transitions between slippery wood/polished rubber floor and high grip carpet. Without this tweek I found them difficult to drive on the tracks I run at, but plenty of others use them uncut.
