Drilling pistons, DEX410 and 210
 

I just got a piston hand-drill to drill my own pistons, and wondering what has been successful for others. I am currently running a DEX210 and DEX410 on high-grip carpet.

Durango drivers (Neumann and Honigl) seem to often be running smaller rear holes than front (f 4x1.4, r 4x1.3, for example), and I would assume it would be the other way around. Any ideas there?

i thought the other way round wud be better to but thats the way they usually run them lol

i run in big bores 1.6 by 3 front with 450 and 1.6 by 4 rear 350 in both cars standard springs but for 210 craig runs light green rear spring with that setup, this has worked really well for me!

I think that it will depend mostly on the track you run at.
A lot of UK tracks are open and flowing with not a lot of big jumps and most of the tracks I run at are tight and technical due to space.

What tires are you running?

At the weekend I was at:
F 2x1,4 35 Light Brown (will go harder)
R 4x1,3 30 Dark Green (will try harder)

I also ran the +8 chassis so when I try the alu one again Ill go a little harder all round

I've driven Losi cars for the past 15 years now and recently switched to durango in 4wd since I got fed up with all the broken belts in my xx4 and just wanted to try something else.

But all these piston sizes! Where do I start? How many do I need? Try to figure out by looking at pro drivers setups but it seems that everyone is running different pistonsetups. It's all from 3 to 6 holes with everything from 1.2 to 1.7mm holes! Losi was great in that way that you just needed 4 pistonsizes. I'll be running bigbores by the way.

I'd like some more piston blanks, other than the ones that came with the buggies. There is this tree:

I think you can't go wrong with 4x 1.3 or 1.4
Also with the tree you are better off getting the tapered piston sets from durango with either 4/5 or 6 holes at 1.1 so you can drill what you want.

I think GEHA do blank tapered and im sure nick on here would do blanks for ya those are also tapered, but he might beable to do standard one. Youll have to ask

i really like the 1.6 holes that i posted above i find u get to much pack with the 1.3 and 1.4 holes in big bores

Thanks for that info. I'm drilling on Wednesday either way, so I'll make the decision by then (just one set of blanks in my possession...no idea what happened to the other set I had.

Has anyone tried the "pro set-up" of smaller holes in the rear? Seems unusual, but who knows. Mind you, I am no pro!

i hav tried it in small bores and it works well on astro and non bumpy surfaces i cudnt really complain about it

if you dont have blanks, get a standard 6 hole piston with smaller holes than you want to drill, get a soldering iron with a flat tip, say you want four holes drag the soldering iron over 2 of the holes from the centre to the out side and then drill the other four holes to what ever you want thats what i do, but wen ur finished make sure you didnt deform the circular shape of the piston as it wudnt be smooth in the shock, if you did drag some plastic over the edge use some fine sand paper or a nail file and sand that little bit off!

When I run a shorty pack I run 1.3 front and 1.3 in the rear 4 hole. But when I run a full size pack I run the 1.2 in the rear 4 hole. It seems to help a lot when I have the full size pack.

If you look at Jorn's set ups he always runs the full size pack.

I was thinking of trying 1.4 or 1.5 when I run on a small really high bite track? It would help with the bigger hole piston not to traction roll no?
