Is the surface compacted or loose?. As it looks a bit like an indoor school for horses

I so wish we had a place like this in the uk:(

Looks great tho well done:thumbsup:

cool, is this a permenant track or a temporary one that's regularly set up in a venue that's also used for other events?

James 16-06-2008 05:14 PM

Cool ! Out of interest, what are the dimensions of the building?

Chrislong 16-06-2008 05:48 PM

I like the look of this, a lot! Good work! Id like to come (Helliwell? anyone else )

And I need a holiday, so how is the place for accomodation (& bar)? Can we camp at the venue? Is the track open daily? Is 240v & benchs provided? Will there be an event - France GP?

Nice video of Raphael doing a lap, will quiz him to death at the Belgium GP

More details

Hi guys,

The Track i brand new. Today we were the first "competition" cars to test it. Actually there are no jump but we will work hard for its, Ameican style!!

It's hard packed but because of brand new there is a lot of dirt. Guys from the shop close to the track will spread water on it on pack it with a machine and then spread water again regularly. Blue groove should not be long to come...

The track is in a place dedicated to mechanical sport, a F1 test track will be build just next to th RC Track. It means that in less than 1 years, hotel, camping will open directly on the track. Actually you can already find hotel perhaps 10 Km from it an camping also. Th city of La Ferte offer also a lot of activities like canoe, cycling, etc..

You can visit the city website. It' s in French but with google tools, you will be able to translate it. http://www.la-ferte-gaucher.org/

The track is 150 meter long. You can race all day and night long with your electronic key if you're member of the RC Track. We already start to name this place Quartz Arena. Quartz because the name the shop is Quartz Modelisme(Quartz means Crystals) and Arena because of ...Yatabe Arena!!

Yes, it's a permanent facility . The track is flat for now, we need to make some beautiful jumps, US style .
Sorry for the crappy handling of my MiD44 but it was setup for astro and I could'nt be arsed to change it only for 2 runs:blush:.

Another quick vid, this time it's the BX of my mate Speedworm.

Looks fantastic! Somebody has spent some money! :woot:

Chrislong 16-06-2008 08:09 PM

Well, hats off to you guys!

A facility like that deserves to be used. Get some dates up on here of race dates please.

Some Americans around will be able to give tips on treatment of the surface, but one hot tip I have heard is the use of sugar when watering, as it binds up and sets like concrete - without it the surface becomes loose and dusty when it dries out.

Any details of how to become a member (just so can get access to track if I/anyone decides to make a week of it).

sounds a good idea chris:thumbsup:

Alfonzo 16-06-2008 08:24 PM

Yeah, that does sound like a good idea! :)

Superb! Every town needs one!

I was very excited to hear it was only 70km from Paris as we have some friends about that far from the capital... unfortunately they live in the opposite direction. :(

VintageRacer 17-06-2008 10:23 AM

What is the blue mini-track in the middle? is that for micros?

Gayo 17-06-2008 01:00 PM

The blue track is for Mini Zs, the shop rent them.
We don't have any details for now about how to become a member, the shop opened for the first time today. I will post details here asap.
Neither Speedworm or I made anything on the track apart from trying it, all the congrats must go to the shop owners. Of course we are now seriously thinking about join them to help buid some quality jumps!
Cheers for the idea of the sugar. I think full fat coke works well too, we will try it for sure!

Very cool indeed and you have great taste in car brands!!!

Thet does look like a good start to a top notch facility.

GAYO: Email Paul Worsley if you get serious about conditioning the surface, I was chatting to him in Finland about the surface at vasa supercross and he (as always) was very knowledgeable. I beleive he knows the "active" ingreedients in Coke that make the grip, you can buy it in big drums which I'm sure would be far more cost effective. They used it in vassa and the track had good grip and low tyre wear even when cold.
