Mini 8ight servo options
Hello,
I'm looking for a good servo for my M8. I'll use it mainly on a 1/10 astro track and want a servo that won't need to be replaced in the future because it's too slow or lacks of torque. What would be the best options? |
Hi
Savox SH1257mg micro servo, fast, good torque, just need original mount opened up slightly to fit Inolab Hb 261 not metal geared but strong and fast, shorter than mount so new hole needs drilling after cutting bottom off mount |
Hello,
I use a Graupner DES 678 BB MG in my Mini 8ight. It's fast and fits the original servo mount perfectly. |

Also use a Kimbrough Servo saver - top row of holes trimmed off (Desc: "Kimbrough #114 Servo Saver for Futaba 25 Spline Drive" on Ebay) |
...but these Savöx Micro Servos do have a 21T Spline!? :eh?:
Does a 25T Spline Saver fit properly? Cheers, Ron. |
Thanks, I heard about the hitec 5245mg, 225mg and 245mg too, futaba 9650, Airtronics 94820...now I have even more choice
oh yeah and the servo saver too, I know there is a Xray that would fit too but I can't remember the part number |

I'm running it with the WHITE 25T kimbrough. The RED 21T kimbrough may fit if you force it on but not recommended |
You are right, so i got a wrong information.
Problem solved, thanks! Cheers, Ron |

Just ordered 2x gens ace 1550mah 25C so the M8 should be on the track very soon . Can't wait! It's weird havin many 1/8 and 1/10 cars and be so crazy about a 1/14. That's because I tried a shark two years ago that I fell in love with :wub |
Now i no i run a carisma but wer talkin servos nd i changed the stnd servo saver for the xray one as suggested, but on i load it would back off on the spring, fine for slower corners bu4 not for fast.so got annoyed and 2as about to chuck the servo saver away untill i realised i had left the stock one at home(duhmoment lol). Mate of mine chucked over a losi one nd it was miles stronger.go figuer lol
|
i had similiar problems with the x-ray s\saver the spring kept getting weak just like the std one, i went through two before i gave up on them,i use the kimborough one now as mentioned in earlier post on my losi, and its been fine
on the carisma ive been using the std s\saver with the uprated spring and so far so good |
i use futaba 9650 servo's with metal gear upgrades in my 2 losi mini 8ights and a kimborough servo saver, steering is greatly improved compared to original

What's the minimum torque needed for the mini eight?
Most of micro BEC only provide 5v so for the 1257mg that means 1,9kg of torque.. Even the 225MG has two times more torque (3,9kg) for the same voltage so I'm wondering if it's enough |
not sure how you would work that one out, as it depends on type of surface you ran on and how good your servo saver was
i would say 2kg @6volts for micros, any less and i think the gears would be too weak |
I've run Futaba 9650's and various other cheaper brands and find the Savox SH1257mg better than anything else.
2kg is plenty for a micro, and the holding power of this Savox servo (which is not given in specs) is far better than anything except the Futabas that I have used. But the Futabas are much more expensive and noticably slower. Savox SH1257mg all the way for me  |
Ok, do you know what's the max size of servo that would fit in the M8?
The Losi needs the same servos as a 1/12 scale pan car. A few brands are making great servos for these: JR, MKS, KoPropo,.. so I'm looking everywhere |
Just discovered some MKS servos that should fit:
DS-9670A+ (35.8x15.2x29mm) DS-9660A+ (same size) DS-92A+ (not sure here because it's very small: 23 x 12 x 27.25 mm) They are used for 3D helis and speed and torque values are excellent |
Does anyone know what spline are these MKS Micro Servos are using? Couldn't find any info about that...
Cheers, Ron |
