A real Newbie needs help please
 

I used to be into RC cars ages ago, however I never went further then stock use and bashing round the house with it.

I moved out of home and during a home tidy out I found my old car - in parts lol:bored:

So urm In my wisdom I decided to, urm, put its details into E bay

Its a Tamiya TT-01, which did have a Imprezza 2003 rally body, though some how I only have a Citroen Rally body - Which I don't think is a Tamiya one.

Now I'd love to get back into messing with it and seen as modifying my car is expensive, decided to feed that habit with doing this up in stead.

So I need real grass roots help - from the basics up.

Can any one advise were I can get this from? Or were to start?

I'm posting here as Bury is the closest place to me (I live in Manchester, near Oldham side)

I'd like to get into to some sort of basic rally cross / Track racing with it.

Could I put Lipo batteries on it and go brush less eventually - if possible?

Is there any were around here that I can run it as I'd like to?

And what tools should I get to work on the car?

Oh and what sort of radio - the one this has is, well its a ex radio.

the best advise I can give you is get yourself over to one of the meetings they are all a friendly bunch. It will open your eyes to the club racing but once you start racing its very addictive:thumbsup:

Well we don't run rally type cars at Bury club - we mostly run buggys and sometimes trucks, but you are always welcome to come along for a chat. Our indoor venue is actually in Oldham at Waterhead Academy (formerly Counthill School) so do drop by.

The TT01 is a popular model and its easy to source spares and upgrades for it so no issues there. I'm not sure about that specific shell but any 190mm onroad shell will fit. Several people make Imprezza shells
Its quite capable of running brushless but remember you need to get the esc and motor - you can't change one at a time. Lipo should wait until after brushless because they need an esc with low voltage cutoff (ie a Lipo compatible esc) or it will get damaged. Also remember you'll need a lipo charger too, your old one won't work.

Tools wise being a Tamiya a good Phillips screwdriver, a 1.5mm Allen driver and 3.5mm and 5.5mm wrenches should do everything.

For the radio providing you can use a wheel set this Ansmann W5 is cheap but effective.

As for running the car on a track - If you can get to Stockport on a Thursday night they race onroad cars and TT01's work well there.

I'd love to build it up, learn how to use it and then bring the car on as my skill level does as well

So as a basic building list Would I be right in saying
1 - Tools as listed above
2 - Radio (One above looks nice!!)
3 - Motor
4 - ESC
5 - Shell
6 - Ancillary nuts bolts clips etc
7 - Shiny blue bits from e bay made of metal?

TT01 is really on-road, not a true rally car. Come along to our next club race on 26th, we're in Oldham over winter anyway. I think you might decide to put the rally car on eBay and get yourself a buggy :D

Looks good. Do you have the Radio gear as well?

If you come to Cheadle on A Thursday night, we run alot of TT-01's and there are a few spares at the club as well. If you Google 'Stockport Model car club' you will find directions.
