501x Do you glue the washer to the outdrive??

Q.When re building my diffs - way over due now as it screeches like a mofo lol.

I have tried experimenting with glueing the washer to the outdrive and by also trying to grease the washer both sides so that in certain circumstances, it could in theory spin on the outdrive(hard to explain but im sure you know what i mean). however after a meeting or two, it will also revert back to squeelling lol.

I now desperately need new ceramic diff balls as im still on original ones on my worlds edition ( previous 501 had a set of kanzens), but im wondering what the rest of us 501 drivers do to the diffs, i.e glue or grease ( grease as per manual).

Many thanks.

hi col, ive always just used a good quality silicone grease on both sides of the washer and had no problems,if the diff is squeeling under acceleration it sounds like the diff is not tight enough or is coming loose after a few runs,I would take the diff apart and check for wear on the internals and maybe even the nut what the diff screw threads into as the nylon part my be worn and the diff screw might be twisting out after a run or two.

Just dont make the mistake I made and forget to put that spacer in,
and the 2 small bearings. That is why my diff melted the first time
I was in a hurry because linton's big race was coming up, and
tottally forgot to...:(
It's fixed now though.
And the B44 hex doesnt fit the 501x, I broke it trying to tighten the front wheel of the 501x.
I was so pissed off. :/

I have new front B44 hexes on the way though.

It squeels only on hard acceleration. TBH after a diff rebuild i replace the screw set with new as iv had numerous probs with them coming loose so i thread lock them, which sometimes makes them a mare to undo lol.

The car is running a 4.5 with the slipper quite tight, so i may back off again sligtly and take it from there.

Thanks

Col.

Dude, the bearing and spacer are what holds the diff pulley together, you should be able too see that it wouldnt work as it would literally wobble on the outdrives and lose all the balls.

:woot: lmao.

You crack me up big time B

I trust you did the scalpel mod to the pulley? if not try that maybe it will help. I've never had a single problem with big pulleys, running ceramic and normal balls.
