XX4 mid-belt tensioner bearing mod.

1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys!,

I got fed up of repeatedly replacing the mid-belt on my XX4 so I made a belt tensioner bearing mod for it. It really helps minimize belt skip specially if you're using a high powered BL system. (me included!)

Sorry for the pic but you'll see what I'm writing about...:)

Cheers!

Jess

It's green - just little blurry image and dirty belt.

I acquired a few black ones from Steve Lawson when he was with Losi. Maybe they are secret team spec ones? They are still in the car now - nearly 2 years after going in...

The old black belts came in the original XX4 and were replaced with the softer (more efficient) green belts when the WE was released.

Belts will not snap if you slipper is set right.

The XX4 has one of the best slipper's in a 4wd.

That's true - I have no issues with 5,5T brushless motor in it.

I think by best you mean hard to set but if you can do it it works well? 3 races, 3 belts for me! I have to say, I prefer simpler designs.

Still lovin that pic

I remeber at one astro national Danny and I think Darren went out with there belt tensioners wacked up high and PW told them this would snap there belts, there cars had megga drive out of the bends but yes the belts snapped, Phil Sleigh backed left his tensioner as normal and didnt snap the belt.

I've used blue and green belts in my XX4 and they didn't last long when I went to BL power. The first BL system I used was a Mamba Max with a 6900 KV motor. You can hear the belts skipping when you punch it specially the rear one. When I shifted to the Tekin R1 Pro with a 448 motor, the skipping was minimized but was still there. I was also running out of original Losi green belts so I had to find alternative belts to keep me running.

Fortunately enough, I was able to get it from a fellow XX4 racer who was in the same boat as I am. The rear belt we are using now is made by BANDO from Japan and the front/mid belts are made by Gates from the USA. It is used in Xerox machines (I think). They are black in color and have the same dimensions of the Losi ones. We've done some track time with these belts and they are holding up very well. There are three of us using these belts but the mid belt is still skipping a bit that's why I did the belt tensioner mod. :)

Here's a picture with the black and green belts for comparison. The rear green belt is toast with a lot of missing teeth in it. Sorry guys for the bad resolution of the picture. I'll try to get a better camera.

The reason why it is skipping is proberly because yu don thave it tensioned right again ive ran a 6.5 motor in my xx4 for over 6 months now and i still have the original belts i put in at begging of last season.

Saying this now ill snap them next time out :p

Could be and most probably new pulleys are in order. My XX4 is not the WE with updated parts. The pulleys are a little worn out already when I put the BL systems in it. That maybe the main reason why my belts are skipping even with new belts installed.

Oh well, it's fun doing the mod anyway and sharing with you guys!!! The rubber belts have shown very little wear even it was skipping. The only indication you know the belt is being worn out is the belt material is left on the teeth of the pulleys....:woot:
